585 NOUS41 KBUF 161828 PNSBUF NYZ001>008-010>014-019>021-085-170630- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Buffalo NY 228 PM EDT Thu Apr 16 2026 ...NWS Damage Survey for 04/15/2026 Tornado Event ... .Machias Tornado Number 2 of 2026... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.17 miles Path Width /maximum/: 55 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: April 15, 2026 Start Time: 8:13 PM EDT Start Location: Machias, Cattaraugus County Start Lat/Lon: 42.391, -78.513 End Date: April 15, 2026 End Time: 8:14 PM EDT End Location: Machias, Cattaraugus County End Lat/Lon: 42.391, -78.510 The National Weather Service in Buffalo investigated storm-related damage from a rotating thunderstorm within a line of storms that affected the area southeast of Machias in Cattaraugus County on April 15th. The National Weather Service storm survey team investigated the damage in the area this morning and confirmed damage consistent with an EF-0 tornado with estimated peak winds of 75 mph. The line of storms originally moved off of Lake Erie traveling east at 50 mph. It passed through Cherry Creek, NY and Leon, NY with numerous reports of trees and wires down. As the storm moved across Cattaraugus County, a mid-level mesocyclone began to intensify east of U.S. Route 219 and quickly intensified southeast of Machias. The mesocyclone was short-lived but persistent enough to assist in tornadogenesis. Damage from the tornado began shortly after the intersection of Tug Hill Road and Gulf Hill Road where a mix of several hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted in a distinctly non-linear manner. Minor damage occurred to the primary residence on the property where a window was blown out of its upper most story. Additionally, a secondary residence lost a few roof shingles. Uprooted tree damage along with large snapped tree branches were observed less than 0.2 miles east of the main damage, leading to an approximate path length of 0.17 miles. The National Weather Service extends our sincere thanks to Cattaraugus Emergency Services for their assistance with today's survey. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ Jurkowski/Fries

543 NOUS41 KBUF 181856 PNSBUF NYZ020-190700- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Buffalo NY 256 PM EDT Sat Apr 18 2026 ...NWS Damage Survey for 4/15/26 Tornado Event Update #1... Update...Second tornado confirmed in Cattaraugus County from Wednesday's severe weather event. .Farmersville Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 80 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.23 miles Path Width /maximum/: 75 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: April 15, 2026 Start Time: 8:16 PM ET Start Location: Town of Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, NY Start Lat/Lon: 42.3623 / -78.3795 End Date: April 15, 2026 End Time: 8:18 PM ET End Location: Town of Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, NY End Lat/Lon: 42.3644 / -78.3761 The National Weather Service in Buffalo received a report on Friday evening of storm damage to seasonal properties in the Town of Farmersville in Cattaraugus County that was suspected to be from a tornado. Upon surveying the damage, the NWS storm survey team was able to confirm EF-0 tornado damage over a path length of just below a quarter of a mile with a maximum estimated wind speed of 80 mph. Damage began with a series of dozens of uprooted hard and softwood trees to the west-southwest of a couple of ponds and extended to the east-northeast. Broken large branches and uprooted softwood pine trees continued along the path of the tornado as it crossed the ponds. Upon moving to the east-northeast of the ponds, dozens of trees were uprooted or snapped, with one falling onto a structure. A small outbuilding was flipped over on private property before the damage moved back into a wooded area. Tree damage continued east-northeast until near the corner of Healy Road and Hardy Corners Road, where it ended. Along the path of the tornado, tree damage generally featured a convergent pattern, which allowed for confirmation of low-end tornadic damage. The National Weather Service in Buffalo extends its thanks again to Cattaraugus County Emergency Services for its assistance with today's survey and for the supplemental drone imagery && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ Fries
