Pockets of tree damage occurred with the majority of any structure damage caused by falling trees. The tornado lifted east of Alpine Ridge Ct. Maximum winds were estimated at 80 mph. .Assessment of other damage in St Joseph County and La Porte County Indiana... A narrow area of damage occurred in the area of Outer Drive and Kroft Drive, just to the southwest of the tornado track. Several trees were uprooted and a few snapped with 2 homes suffering damage from falling trees. While it is suspected a circulation may have been near the surface or possibly briefly touched down, the evidence was not conclusive enough to classify as a tornado. Winds were likely in the 70 to 75 mph range in these areas. Damage was observed in the Lydick, IN area with some tree damage noted on the northwest side of Chain Lake and more sporadic damage in other areas. While a brief touchdown may have occurred here, the evidence was inconclusive and will be ruled as straight-line winds of 60 to 70 mph. A report was received of damage east of Mill Creek (La Porte county) in the area of E 75 S between S 775 E and S875 E. Access was limited to the general area due to fencing, but a small west to east barn was blown towards the north into 2 other barns with no damage noted to the other structures. Some tree damage was also observed north of this location. No other damage was observed in the general area. The damage is being ruled as straight-line winds of 60 to 70 mph. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ Fisher
