501 NOUS41 KBGM 192100 PNSBGM NYZ015-200900- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Binghamton NY 500 PM EDT Fri Jun 19 2026 ...NWS Damage Survey for 06/18/26 Yates County EF-1 Tornado Event... .Yates County Tornado in Rock Spring... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.21 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/18/2026 Start Time: 10:55 AM EDT Start Location: 1 W Rock Stream / Yates County / NY Start Lat/Lon: 42.4678 / -76.9309 End Date: 06/18/2026 End Time: 10:57 AM EDT End Location: 1 NE Rock Stream / Yates County / NY End Lat/Lon: 42.4704 / -76.9075 Survey Summary: An EF-1 Tornado hit Rock Spring, NY during late morning on June 18, 2026. Though there were pockets of minor tree damage from the storm itself, tornadic damage started around Reading Road at 1055 AM. This tornado strengthened to as much as 90 mph from Old Lake Road to State Route 14, as rotation tightened with the storm itself quickly moving at 50 mph from higher elevations into the Seneca Lake basin. Numerous trees were uprooted in a convergent chaotic fashion, and around 40 vineyard posts were snapped. Twigs and branches were impaled into the ground as missiles in portions of the vineyard, and shingles were found more than a quarter mile from their source. A garage outbuilding collapsed, with some peeling back of a metal roof and siding damage also noted on the residence with small branches squeezing into gaps. After crossing State Route 14 with a continued corridor of uprooted trees, the tornado ended at the Seneca Lake shore around 1057 AM near Fir Tree Point. Spotty tree damage was found on the other side of the lake, but not consistent with tornadic winds. The NWS Binghamton office would like to thank impacted residents and vineyard for their assistance in completing this survey, while providing accounts of what they observed. Thanks also to Yates County Emergency Management for their coordination. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$

466 NOUS41 KBGM 012311 PNSBGM NYZ046-021115- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Binghamton NY 711 PM EDT Wed Jul 1 2026 ...NWS Damage Survey for 07/01/2026 Tornado Event... .Otsego County Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105 mph Path Length /statute/: 8.39 miles Path Width /maximum/: 300 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/30/2026 Start Time: 04:34 PM EDT Start Location: 1 E Pittsfield / Otsego County / NY Start Lat/Lon: 42.6258 / -75.2398 End Date: 06/30/2026 End Time: 04:52 PM EDT End Location: 4 ESE Morris / Otsego County / NY End Lat/Lon: 42.516 / -75.1808 Survey Summary: Headed to New Berlin and Pittsfield area this morning to find the start of the damage and follow the storm track where there were some higher velocities on radar. There was sporadic tree damage in Pittsfield and south for a few miles before reaching an area that had much more concentrated damage. A narrow corridor of damage was found just off County highway 46 a few hundred yards into the woods. This concentrated area of damage followed the road well and we stopped at a few houses where residence were home. Talking to residence, their stories helped confirm that this was likely a tornado, with one explaining that the storm was short and intense with a pressure drop resulting in a suction sound in their house and many trees in their front lawn fell. Another residence showed that the damage was only on one side of the property with little damage on the other. As we went down the hill towards Elm Grove and state route 51, damage became more sporadic but was still in line with the damage observed already. Headed into West Laurens, the amount of tree damage picked up. The direction of the tree fall in West Laurens was largely 225 degrees or so, and given the storm direction and location, was likely outflow winds in town. Headed south of town down Crawford rd, the damage became more concentrated once again. Many of the trees along and east of Crawford rd were also falling in that SW direction with tree damage not concentrated and more random. Headed onto properties to the west of Crawford, another concentrated corridor of tree damage was found. It looked like the vortex intensified as it crossed a large, open yard before headed into the forest once again. Over the top of the hill, the broken off trees continued down past a lake where the significant tree damage quickly came to an end. Talking to a residence on the south side of the lake, they explained the storm as a Bucket of water being poured from the sky and the winds lasting multiple minutes. This sounds like it was a downburst/forward flank downdraft wrapping into the tornado. With the lack of any damage corridors or trees falling in a convergent pattern after this point, this was found to be the end of the track. Thank you to the Emergency Management of Otsego County for helping with this survey as well as the residence that gave us their stories. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
