Tickets are now on sale: http://lanyrd.com/2013/ruby-manor/

They won't last the day I reckon.

The last one had some of the most interesting talks I've ever seen at a conference. Recommended.

Thanks Tekin.

I've bought a ticket and will happily drive if I can get a full car. Two seats provisionally gone already - feel free to message me if you're interested in one of the remaining two seats!

I've got a ticket and will probably travel down by train Lord Smalley
class mid afternoon the day before, travelling back the day after.

If anyone wants to join me in this they're welcome.

I am already in permanent Lord Smalley class by living in W6 so :-P

I will be happy to show NWRUG'ers around some decent pubs that charge less than £4/pint in central London on the Friday night if you want some company and don't have haunts/meetups already planned.

If you insist on pretending you're all wired into the Silicon Roundabout community and want to drink near Old Street, then by virtue of working just off it for the last 18 months I know some places where the mini-p'far and moustache count is within tolerable limits (i.e. down to Manchester Northern Quarter ratios), although I can not be held accountable for the ratio of inane idiots you might encounter. Oh, and bring money.

I'd offer to put some of you up on a sofa or air mattress, but I've seen what you're all like when drunk, and we have cream carpets, curtains and cushions, so we all know that combination is a terrible idea, you disgusting animals... :-D

See you in April (if not before).

I've also just got a ticket too, but for any footy fans out there it's the Manchester derby that day. I am banking on the match being moved to Sunday for sky.

I'll be happy to come out for a beer or three. Last time I was in
London I spectacularly failed to find any decent beer. A local sounds
like just the ticket ;)

Will.

Top tips for finding beer in London:

1. The CAMRA book/app is worth referring to
2. So is the Casque Mark app
3. It's rare to see ale with a proper head
4. If it serves keg ales, it's probably very expensive for everything including ale
5. If the postcode starts with E or N, exercise caution: you might have accidentally stumbled into a trendy bar. Check your surroundings, or risk paying £5/pint
6. If the postcode starts W, exercise caution: you might have accidentally stumbled into a gastro pub. Check for blackboards containing the words "platter", "jus" or "fennel", and if any of them are found you may with to leave or risk paying £5/pint
7. If you are in Soho, leave
8. If your postcode begins with "S" but not "SW", your night is about to get interesting...

That said, loads of decent boozers with a bit of exploration, but hard to find by chance. Loads and loads of Sam Smith's boozers around Holborn for example.

I was just about to post in here about the tickets, but I see the game is already afoot!

It's really great that many of you are planning on coming down. We definitely want to cast as wide a geographic net as possible.

Since you've started to talk about travel, I thought it would be worth mentioning that we're hoping to organise some more structured shindigs the night before and the morning after, in case that affects your travel plans at all. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I thought it was worth letting you know ASAP.

If you're not already following Ruby Manor on twitter, or via the Ruby Manor google group, I suggest signing up to one or both to make sure you get the latest details as they become available (i.e. as we figure them out :))

All the best,

- James

That's good to know. I'll probably head to London on Thurs 4th and work from Central Working when not client shopping.

Any workshops or similar planned for the Sunday?
I best get my visit onto Startup Stay before everyone else does.

Shall be a good one. Also hoping to be at LRUG in either Feb or March.

Cheers for running it & having great ticket names :)

Euston : Euston Tap - right outside the front of the station. Very good
collection of ales & beers for such a small place.
Drummond Street - Lots of good curry restaurants & the not too shabby
Crown & Anchor
Warren Street - Opposite site of Euston Road to the station (the big
noisey ring road) has The Prince of Wales Feathers.
Heading down Whitfield St (off Warren Street, parallel to Totty Ct Rd)
there's a few old boozers that are quiet, have decent ale, and wingback
chairs.
The Indian YMCA is also off here for cheap lunchtime curries.
If you want somewhere classier Jerusalem Bar is somewhere down there.
On the other side of Totenham Ct Rd (Gower St) there's a few student
pubs if you want cheap.
Carry on down to Soho Square and find the Toucan for a decent Guinness.
Head accross to Charing Cross Rd / Denmark Rd for 12 bar, cro bar,
Intrepid Fox (FOR ROCK MUSIC)
The British Musuem is also around this area (go before beeer. It has the
best ceiling in the country? TBC ;)
There's a cocktail bar called Freuds as well close. But I'd definitely
been to others on this list before & never found since!

Cheapest hotel I know of is the County
(http://www.imperialhotels.co.uk/county - ask for a non-road side room).
Stayed for Ruby Underground. Shared bathrooms. Not been renovated since
???. Includes breakfast mind.

hth,
Ian

Any workshops or similar planned for the Sunday?

At the moment we've just mooted a social even on the Friday night, a more cohesive dinner situation after the conference itself, and another social event on the Sunday morning. We definitely don't have the cash to buy everyone dinner, but we might put a lot more effort into getting people to meet and get to know each other by providing a bit more structure to this things. Sorry it's nothing clearer than that yet I'm afraid.

All that said, if you want to explore doing something more structured, you now have an audience of at least 250 people to canvas for interest...

Cheers for running it & having great ticket names :)

You're very welcome :) That said, the best way to express your gratitude is by getting onto Vestibule to propose and help refine other proposals ;-)

For those of you that like your coffee and are less hipster-phobic, you could do worse than check out the London's Best Coffee app for iOS. It's been super-helpful for finding a decent brew on my trips down to London. Getting an update with the Christmas opening hours was a nice surprise and saved on a couple of wasted journeys. They also make a Craft Beer London app. I've not used it, but if it's as good as the coffee one, it's probably worth a punt.
