Hello to you lovely people of NWRUG,

Hope the new year is treating you all well. I'm an engineering manager at FreeAgent, and we've got a few roles open I thought I'd advertise, though you can see all our open jobs at https://careers.freeagent.com.

At FreeAgent we build web-based accounting software for small businesses; to put it another way our mission is to put small businesses in control of their finances. We've been a Rails shop since we were founded 18 years ago, and have a continuously upgraded majestic monolith (currently running on Rails 7.2). We're hosted in AWS, and have recently removed the last vestiges of jQuery from our codebase. Our frontend story is largely Hotwire: Stimulus controllers and Turbo sending HTML for our page updates. We've got CSS generated through SASS, and our HTML (the best programming language) is generated through ERB templates.

FreeAgent has an office in sunny Edinburgh, where about 50% of our engineers are based, with the other 50% working full time remote, based around the rest of the UK and Northern Ireland.

Since you good people are likely to be wanting to work remotely I'll call out that: 

* we're looking for two permanent mid-level to senior engineers for two of our product teams.These roles are to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, crafting and refining features in Ruby for the FreeAgent web-app. Depending on your experience, our salary for these roles are between £39,000 - £74,000. More details here: https://careers.freeagent.com/en/postings/123db768-453f-49ce-8eaf-252c8afef7e9

* Also remotely: until the end of January, applications for our paid summer engineering intern positions are open. If you or someone you know have yet to get paid experience in the industry, these roles are for you. We don't mind if you're self taught, come from a coding bootcamp or are studying at university. We're not looking for any agency support for these jobs nor are we looking for contractors at the moment.
