Checked my today. Found 5 alive and well, did not see them bringing in any pollen.
Had one deadout, no live bees, cell edges chewed up, but not entire cell. No stores at all left. Some dead bodies on bottom board, none were chewed or eaten, also had one European hornet dead there.
Starvation and absconded?

Glad to hear you had 5 alive.  Your description of your one dead out is exactly what Dave McLallen (West 38th street) told me today was the condition of his hives.  There was no honey and no bees left.  Dave lost all of his.  I think he had two.  He thought they might have become queenless and got robbed out.  My dead outs all have a lot of honey.  I need to take them apart to learn more.  There did not seem to be many dead bees on the bottom boards.

I got this link from the state apiarist, Karen.... We've been getting concerns from all over the state about losses that look like this description: http://beeinformed.org/2016/03/08/why-did-my-honey-bees-die/  Myself included.

I have (had) one hive and I knew it was gone, as I'd seen no activity in the warmer weather.  I was dreading opening this hive that didn't make it, but I know they had great stores going into the late fall, so I expected this would be a good year for my hive.  I finally opened it today.  No bees, no stores, lots and lots of drawn comb in both the lower and upper hive box.  Debris and a nest at the bottom right corner from what appears to have been a mouse over-wintering.  I just expected to see a lot of dead bees, but nothing.

About five years ago, one of my hives swarmed in early summer and hived up in a tree behind our barn.  This has been a very strong colony, every year.  You could hear them buzzing all year, smell the honey when you passed by the tree.  There is no sign of them this year, not one bee coming in or out.

Very bummed.

Mary Ann,

Your description of your hive is the same as four people have told me.  One theory is that the hive dwindled in the fall due to mites causing loss of brood due to a virus they carry.  During the warm fall the bees would have carried out the dead bees and diseased larvae.  Gradually robber bees might have cleaned out the honey before it got too cold.  There is also an article in the State Beekeeper's newsletter in February describing a new mystery that is being investigated.  Bummer either way.

Best wishes getting re-established this year.
