Speaker's Profile
Iqbal Asaria CBE is a Ugandan born economist and trained accountant. He has worked as an investment analyst in the City of London for several years. He is also a member of the Bank of England's Governor's working party set up to facilitate the introduction of Shariah-compliant financial products in the UK market. Presently, he is a Special Adviser on Business & Economic Affairs to the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain. He is an associate of the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia (IBFIM), member of the City's Financial Markets Law Committee (FMLC) and has spoken at several conferences and symposia on Islamic banking and finance. He was awarded the CBE in the 2005 Queen's Honours List for services to international development.
