Hiding mac dock icon

Is there a way to hide the mac dock icon for a running instance of node WebKit?

I would ideally like the app to be a helper for an app that sits in the background d and only shows ui when it needs to. When it's not showing ui it really needs to not have a mac dock icon.

Anybody know how to achieve this? I have seen in the issue tracker on GitHub talk of a show_taskbar_item manifest option big this doesn't work on mac.
