Hi all,

In for the last two years, we've hosted a yard sale during the Ohio CIty Yard Sale to benefit NWIS.   We've allowed people to donate unwanted items to the sale and we try to sell them.  Anything not sold is donated on.  You don't have to take anything back.

We probably don't have as much to sell this year, but we'd be happy to host again if anyone wants to get rid of some things and benefit NWIS in the process.

All Block Leaders and Area Residents: Mark your calendars!

The NearWest Community Wide Yard Sale 2013 is set for Saturday August 3rd (9-4)

Sign Ups will be following your June Block Club meeting... All Block Leaders and CDC contacts will have sign up info by then.   Sign ups will begin June 1 and end June 30 / $5 to participate.

It is Recommended that for maximum exposure people get others near them to also participate. Shoppers flock to areas with more stars on the map (*) ...

W47th St is a key example of really getting the whole street involved. The OCI service area, and the Gordon Sq district and Franklin Blvd are the map areas covered this year.

Hi, I have a question that is off subject but I was wondering if anyone could answer:) Is Near west only available for kids who are in Cleveland? I was telling a great couple how awesome Near west was, but didn't know that answer:/

Thank you,
~Amber

Hi Amber,

NWIS is open to any resident of Ohio. We have many families from outside the city.

However, Cleveland residents get priority during early enrollment. This mostly has to do with funding. Because of the way charter schools are funded, NWIS gets significantly more money per child for Cleveland (or East Cleveland) residents than anyone outside the city.

To be a little more specific, at early enrollment time (January), the priority list goes:
1) Returning students
2) Siblings of current students
3) Children of staff
4) Cleveland residents
5) Any Ohio resident.

At the early enrollment deadline, any available spaces are filled by going down the list. If there are more children in a group than there are spaces for that level, then a lottery is held to determine admission and/or wait list order.

Thank you for such a quick response:) I appreciate you explaining that to me, I enjoy learning how the school works!
I will definitely pass that along.

Thank you,
