Seattle 48HFP: The 48 Hour Film Project returns to Seattle for it's 9th year July 12-14!

It's that time of year! Seattle... nay... Washington State's largest filmmaking competition returns to Seattle for a triumphant 9th year on July 12th.

If you're not familiar with the competition, on Friday night, July 12th, over 50 filmmaking teams will be given a genre, character, line of dialogue and a character to be used in creating a 4-7 minute short film which is to be turned in Sunday July 14th by 7:30pm. After 7:30pm, the films are considered late and are not eligible for official judging.

But wait! There's more!

All films turned in will be screened the following week at the SIFF CInema Uptown Theater to a packed house. That's right! The movie you make just days before will be screening in a 500 seat theater! All films, even the late ones, are eligible for one of 4 audience favorite awards.

This is a great opportunity to "walk the walk" and challenge your technical and creative skills as well as recharge your creative batteries. All it takes is two anxiety ridden, sleepless days and a lot of caffeinated beverages.

We will be holding a series of networking events between May 21 and July 11th to facilitate people rounding out their cast and crew and helping interested people get themselves onto teams. Every year, teams born of strangers turn into career long working relationships.

Also, this year is the Portland 48HFP's 10th anniversary. They somehow manage to register more teams than us every year. This year, despite our friendship with the Portland franchise, our goal is to register more teams on their big anniversary. We're shooting for 65 teams!

Chances are you've heard about this and were intrigued. Why not get involved? If your team wins best in city, your film goes on to screen again at Filmapalooza in March or April next year and compete against all the city winners from around the world. It's a great event that allows you to meet filmmakers from all over the world and...

A handful of the best of the best go on to screen at the Cannes Film Festival. Yes! There's a chance your film could screen at Cannes!
