Baofeng DTMF tones

Does anyone know of a way to adjust the gain/deviation of DTMF tones on a
Baofeng UV5R radio??
The * (star) DTMF tone from my Baofeng UV5R radio does not decode
properly when received by my IRLP node. It WILL work if I turn the volume
on the Baofeng WAY, WAY down. But then I must remember to quickly turn
the volume back up in order to hear whatever is being transmitted back to
me. I have 3 of these Baofengs and they all do the same thing.

This describes a setting that will mute the mic when sending a DTMF tone.
