Subject: [aprssig] Ver .72 of UZ7HO Soundmodem Released
To: TAPR APRS Mailing List <apr...@tapr.org>

Yet another version of the UZ7HO "Soundmodem" soundcard TNC (ver .72b)
was released today (Monday 2 Feb), along with a 9600/19200-baud G3RUH
version.

Both versions feature the new improved interface with dual IP ports.
(One provides the AGWpe-type interface to applications; the other a
standard KISS-over-IP interface.)

As usual, I have repacked both into full Windows "wizard"-type
installers that create an install folder & desktop shortcuts. Go to
my website at:

Hi Bill,

Yep, I downloaded the new version and it is up and running on HF 10147.600
K7MT-11 HF Igate in Helena.

Question Bill, I cannot seem to get a signal to read on the 9600/19200
G3RUH. I sent 9600 baud tests from my Alinco DR-635 and my Kenwood TS-2000
9600 baud tnc coped just fine, but the UZ7HO G3RUH did not copy and I do see
the signal on the waterfall. Any Idea what I could be doing wrong. Yes, it
works fine on 300 - 2400 baud using the Signalink and Icom706MKIIG

Is there a different hookup for the signalink to my IC706MKIIG for this
operation. I ask as Montana State University in conjunction with New
Hampshire University put two Cube Satellites (Firebird Project) and they
downlink the data on 70cm at 19,200. I want to help the MSU folks collected
data from the experiment on board. If I could get the 19200 working that
would be great. If not, we were given a few Spirit II's and they have the
19200 filter and I will set one of those up to copy the data.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're on the leading edge!!!

9600 is tricky. I wonder if anybody with a Signalink has had it
working. For 9k6, there can't be any DC blocking capacitors on the
audio input. If there are, they don't allow the lower frequency -
down to DC - through and the distorted signal doesn't decode.

I've heard that the cheapest soundcards are best for 9600 since they
saved pennies by eliminating the capacitors.

That's good to know - I'm looking forward to trying 2400 and 4800 asap.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for response.  Experimentation continues. I believe I need to make another cable from the Ic706 to take data off the discriminator for 9600 baud on 70CM. Cable has 1200 from radio to signalink. I will let you know if that works.

In the mean time, I hooked up my Nooelec $15.00 SDR Reciver to my USB Port, started UZ7HO at 9600 Baud, set SDSharp for WFM and it copies 9600 baud just tine. So, I tuned up to the Firebird Cube Sat and the cheap SDR Radio and UZ7HO modem coped data from the satellite just fine at 19,200.  Woo Hoo.

Andy UZ7HA responded about the pinout on the 706 and this link to show the SDR USB Dongle and UZ7HO copying the data off the Firebird Satellite.

Thanks again Bill I will let you know how the new cable works but the SDR Receiver is working great..

Yes - that could certainly be it. You need flat discriminator
signals for 9600. Thanks for the update and let us know how it goes.
