Haven't there been autonomous boats using APRS? Control and monitoring is certainly possible.

Yes, there was an autonomous boat video "floating around" on YouTube. It was filmed on the lake just north of Coulee City, WA.

I would have to research it, but I even think there is a mode in ax.25 for control.
