Doozie of an issue TM-D710A and AvMap G6

I've been working with Gary KG4SBG in TN trying to resolve issue with his ZtM-D710A and AvMap G6. I used to run this same combo in my vehicle until 2 years ago, a new truck and Yaesu FTM-500. I borrowed the same radio and GPS from Missoula neighbor Dick, W7XT, and had it working on the bench in a couple minutes. Got Gary on the phone and went thru all the settings to match them up. Everything else works, Receive stations and plot on the GPS map, b-band on a repeater freq and works, can transmit audio on PTT on a-band APRS on 144.390s, all other settings matched, but D710 will not transmit an APRS packet for anything. Bad rates check, radio receives and processes packets ok, just never goes to transmit on the a side. Thoughts?

You probably already checked it but is the Beacon setting on?  It is what always kills me.  I forget to turn it on…

 

Also, is the “GPS has a lock” icon (I forget exactly what it is) flashing indicating a good GPS lock?

I've been following this thread on the D-710 group.  Has he tried a full reset of the radio yet?  The fact that APRS TX doesn't work on either side of the radio suggests the TNC may have a problem (it's the only thing common to both sides.  Try a full reset and if that doesn't work, it needs to go to Kenwood for troubleshooting and repair.

Flashing GPS, and P.Mon button show good stream coming in. BCON set on with SmartBeaconing and other modes. Tried turn BCON off, wait, turn back on and SHOULD see ONAIR and 5-6 bars, but nothing happens. Also listened on another radio, nothing.

What if you change the trigger from SmartBeacon to PTT?  Can you get it to transmit a location then?

Tried those and Manual as well. Reduced time down to .5 minute. Same, no transmit.

Sounds like the xmit side of the TNC is not happening…

 

Last test I could think of is put it in computer mode and hook it up via cable and see if it xmits when the program tells it to…
