JUPITR APRS Digipeater

The SOMTN site is no more and has now been totally removed.  I want to thank Carl Holman K7CH for being my site host for all these years and for removing all of my equipment from the site.  His last trip up to South Mountain was this last Friday.  I will now have to make a trip to his house to retrieve all of equipment.

 

With SOMTN now gone, the JUPITR site is playing a big role in digipeating the APRS Network in Western Washington.  This site is a total solar site on the foothills of Mount Jupiter in Western Washington above the Hood Canal.  The site is owned and operated by Bruce Klanke K7IDX and is shown below.  I want to thank Bruce for having run this site for many years.  Bruce is a friend of mine and if you have any comments or see any problems, please let me know.

Herb, a huge thanks to you and Carl for teaming up to make the South Mtn digi a reality all these years.  The data from aprs.fi has proved that SOMTN has been one of the biggest contributors to the NWAPRS network for South Puget Sound, especially for pulling in those weak signals from handhelds in the backcountry where no other terrestrial coverage exists.

I agree that Bruce's digi will continue to provide great high-site coverage for the puget sound area.  It may be further north on the Olympic Peninsula but has frequently decoded packets all over Western WA in areas I didn't even think was possible.
