Dear Canyon Creek resident:
A number of us here in Canyon Creek believe it would be appropriate to memorialize Mr. Coleman by renaming the Canyon Creek park after him.
Would you join us?
Please reply with comments and questions and ask your Canyon Creek friends and neighbors about this resolution.
We are asking the HOA to consider adopting this resolution at the next major meeting, expected in February (2011).
Greg Coleman’s memorial will be this Thursday at 11:00 AM at the LDS Stake center, 1000 E. Rutherford. Everyone is welcome.
Sincerely,
Don Zimmerman

Whereas, Gregory Scott Coleman was a man of exceptional educational and professional accomplishment, and a husband and father of exemplary character, and;
Whereas, Mr. Coleman was a distinguished Austin lawyer, having graduated from the University of Texas School of Law with High Honors, served as a clerk to the Honorable Edith Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and to the Honorable Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court, was the first Solicitor General for the State of Texas, and served as an adjunct professor at the South Texas College of Law and the University of Texas at Austin; and
Whereas, Mr. Coleman's successes as an attorney indelibly made him a part of the history of the Canyon Creek subdivision, when he accepted a difficult legal case in 2002, on contingency terms other leading attorneys declined, for the benefit of Canyon Creek residents, and;
Whereas, Mr. Coleman worked steadfastly for eight years, with virtually no compensation, expertly representing Canyon Creek taxpayers until finally winning an extraordinary legal victory in 2010, and;
Whereas, Mr. Coleman’s legal victory completely eliminated a Canyon Creek Utility District property tax saving taxpayers $18 million dollars, provided immediate tax refunds for individual residents, and a beneficiary credit towards the Canyon Creek Homeowners Association acquisition of a neighborhood greenbelt; now, therefore, it is
RESOLVED that the Canyon Creek HOA, on behalf of its grateful residents and property owners, hereby petitions the City of Austin to rename Canyon Creek’s “Trailhead Park” as “Gregory S. Coleman Park”.
It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.
