FOCUS on DACA and TPS
The Supreme Court of the United States will hear the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) case on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.  DACA is the program established  by President Obama that enabled 800,000 young immigrants who arrived in the U.S. before the age of 16 who attended or attends high school, college or GED to received permission to work and be protected against deportation.  It was ended by Trump, but kept in place due to litigation.  Pennsylvania's Attorney General Josh Shapiro is part of a group of 20 state attorney generals who submitted briefs opposing the abolition of DACA to protect the 6,000 DACA recipients in our state.    There are over 1,000,000 eligible youth who could take advantage of the program, but newly eligible youth were  denied the opportunity when Trump eliminated it. If the Court decides President Obama exceeded his authority in  DACA, all these young people will lose their status, become undocumented and subject to deportation. Trump also abolished Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 300,000 people mainly from Haiti and El Salvador.   In other words, Trump's actions create over 1,300,000 more undocumented immigrants, many of whom have lived in the U.S. over 20 years.

A national coalition, HOME IS HERE will mobilize and bring Dreamers to the Supreme Court.  Information is on this facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/fwdus/.  In Philadelphia. the #Homeishere March twill be arriving  on Nov 1. This march will bring 30+ daca, tps, undocumented youth together from New York, Philadelphia and other parts of the country as they make their way to DC asking the supreme court and congress to stop DACA and TPS from ending and to find a solution for Immigration Reform.   Stay tuned for updates!
