I am passing on information about a "protest" carolling event scheduled for this THURSDAY, 12/19 12 noon at City Hall and Love Park, organized by a group called Elder Witness to raise awareness of the government's refusal to vaccinate migrant kids . We will be singing new words to old songs....See message below. (You don't have to be elder to join!). Please share with your networks!
Dear Elders and Friends,
ElderWitness will be holding its next action on Thursday, December 19, at 12 – 1 pm, in and around City Hall. However, those participating are requested to start gathering at 11:30 am. The exact location will be announced shortly.
We will be focusing on getting our government to vaccinate refugee children in detention against the flu in compliance with the CDC recommendations to vaccinate all refugees in detention against the flu. Leaving people unprotected in crowded quarters during flu season has the potential to become a medical disaster.
Our action will include a professional speaking about the importance of vaccinating refugees in detention, but most of our time will be spent singing. Several of us are writing new lyrics to familiar holiday tunes. The lyrics will focus on the plight of these children. The lyrics will be on our handouts, and passersby will be invited to sing with us. We are borrowing on the concept of caroling during this season.
This site has been selected because of the Christmas Village at City Hall and Love Park. We anticipate there will be a large number of shoppers during lunch hour, providing us with a good-sized audience. We will select two locations, and spend about 20 minutes at each. Our flyers will include information about the health needs of refugee children and will encourage people to contact their representatives to reverse the government’s decision.
Please plan on joining us and invite others to participate.
Please contact me by e-mail if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks.
Naomi
