I set up treezilla a few years ago on a total shoestring budget, here is £10k set up a huge citizen science project to deal with all trees in uk! Once it was successfully running others took over. With these projects it is sustaining them that can become the big challenge as no one wants to give money to something that is already running. One thing that the current version lacks and which I think is a serious issue is no ‘streetview’, I always said it was essential to have this so people putting on the tree and those checking could actually see the tree at various times of year. Unfortunately with google’s increases in charges the current version of treezilla moved over to free mapping that lost streetview.

Anyway it is still a nice system, most of the trees have come from council inventories etc but some are from ‘citizens’.
