We are pleased to share an invitation from our partners at IEEP and IUCN to support the conservation of teasel plant bees.

Dear Eurosite Community,

We are pleased to share an invitation from our partners at the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to contribute to an important initiative supporting the conservation of teasel plant-specialised bees.

Through their work on the European Commission-funded project "EU support to the implementation of conservation plans for threatened pollinator species,ā€ they are developing practical, evidence-based guidance for managing sites where these species occur. Your knowledge and experience are essential to ensuring this guidance reflects on-the-ground realities and best practice.

We warmly encourage you to read the message below and consider contributing. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Auriane Flottes de Pouzols atĀ afdep...@ieep.eu.

Dear Eurosite Network,

We are reaching out to invite your collaboration on a focused initiative concerning the EU Species Action Plan for teasel plant bees. Our work on the EC-funded project, EU support to the implementation of conservation plans for threatened pollinator species, requires us to develop best practices for the management of sites where these species occur.

To better understand the current situation across the European protected area network and explore opportunities for coordinated conservation action, we kindly ask for your input on the following:

  1. Presence of teasel plant bee species.Ā Do you have teasel plant specialised bee species present on your site(s)? If so, please indicate which species and, where possible, share any available monitoring data or observations.

  2. Management guidance or experience. Do you have existing management guidance, practical experience, or site-based measures aimed at supporting teasel plant specialised bee species or specialised solitary bees more generally? This may include habitat management approaches (e.g. teasel management, grassland or scrub management), monitoring protocols, species action plans, or restoration techniques.

  3. Interest in collaboration. Would you be interested in contributing to the development and dissemination of best practices for conserving teasel plant specialised bee species within the Eurosite network? This could involve sharing case studies, participating in a small working group, or contributing to joint guidance or knowledge exchange activities.

Our objectives are to:

  1. Map the presence of teasel-associated bee species across the network

  2. Identify and compile existing knowledge and management experience

  3. Develop practical, evidence-based best practices that can be shared across sites

If you are able to contribute, please email Auriane Flottes de Pouzols at afdep...@ieep.eu, indicating how you would like to be involved.

Thank you in advance for your engagement and support.
