Fundraiser for Friends of North Village Branch Library

Please join us this Tuesday, August 31st from 6 - 8pm at Water 2 Wine,
a custom winery located at 3300 Anderson Ln (at Mopac/Anderson Ln/
Shoal Creek/ Great Northern) .
You will be able to sample nitrate-free wines from around the world,
appetizers and an in-store performance of Classical Guitar Music by
Ryan Vorstad, and best of all, schmooze with your friends from around
the neighborhood.
Ryan Voldstad began playing guitar at age 7 in the Childbloom Guitar
Program with teacher Slobodan Vujisic. He won fourth prize at the
Guitar Foundation of America’s International Older Youth competition
in San Francisco in 2008, as well as numerous top prizes in national
competitions. He was awarded Outstanding Performer four consecutive
years at UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble competition. A 2010
Westwood High School (RRISD) graduate, he will be attending Stanford
University in September, where he will study math or engineering and
continue classical guitar studies.
The library Friends raised $1000 last year to help the local library
maintain their subscriptions to many periodicals and magazines that
otherwise would have been cut. We still have over $400 in the bank
and would like to raise enough this year for next year's subscriptions
as well. Come help us get to that goal.
If you do not drink alcohol, there will be sparkling waters on hand
for you and please feel free to join us. There is a minimum $10
donation at the door and you may leave a check made out to the North
Village Branch Library with the designation in the comments line
"Donation to the Local Branch" and the head librarian and North Shoal
Creek neighbor, Katherine Kanarski, will make certain it goes to the
subscription fund.

While last year's enormously successful Thrift Sale formally was co-sponsored
by the Friends group, the fact is at that time the Friends group was really
just Tomas Rodriguez and me. There were a lot of people involved that deserve
credit for the success, and this recounting suggests otherwise.
The Thrift Sale happened when Tomas brought the idea to the North Shoal Creek
Neighborhood Association (NSCNA) through me. The association was delighted to
support this, and contributed people, resources and funds in support of the
event. As a result, the event raised over $1200 for the library -- which is
well beyond what anybody expected.
As noted, there are some remaining funds available to support the library.
Contrary to what's stated above, they are being held by NSCNA, not the
Friends. We'll disburse them under the direction of the library. If you have

I thought it was important to correct the record because a lot of people put a
lot of effort into making the event a success (some of them are on this list),
and I think they deserve their share of credit for all that magnificent effort.
