Dear All,

As agreed, I ran another air quality test over the whole school on Monday last week.  The films have been slow to develop this time - indicating a much lower level of fungal spores in the school overall.  I will send photographs of the films next week from work, but I can report that the test film from the music room has no fungal colonies growing on the film at this stage (6 days after testing), most classrooms have at least 2 colonies at this stage and Mikes class (again the worst case scenario) has 9 - but even this is far better than last time.

I should point out however, that the air test strip from inside the music room cupboard currently has 7 colonies and the swab that I took from the cupboard also has numerous colonies - I do not see this as a major concern.  The results still show that the air quality inside the cupboard is still better or at least equivalent to Mikes class.

I therefore propose that we open the music room for class activities providing the dehumidifier continues to run.  As an extra precaution, I would also suggest that the cupboard doors are kept closed during the school day, but left open overnight to ensure that we continue to dry out the brickwork as prescribed by the contractors.

Unless anyone has an objection, I suggest that Carolyn starts using the music room for lessons from Monday onwards.  Obviously, if any children or teachers experience symptoms of allergies or sensitivity to being in that room, then we must discontinue use of that room immediately.  Personally, I am confident that this will not happen.

Regards,
Nina

All,
I would endorse Nina's recommendations for putting the music room base in service based on what the contractors found and did, and on Nina's test results.
Thanks,
Larry

I agree with Larry and Nina. It seems as if we've addressed the problem,
and if the mold is low it would be great to start using the room again.

Nina,
Thank you for testing the room and the rest of the school.
Yes, it would be good to use the room again with the dehumidifiers on and other precautionary measures.
I also think that we should test again in 3-4 months or at a time you think appropriate and of course as needed. Also, we need to have these results and rest of the documentation on record, for any future discussion( hopefully none!)
best regards,
Pallavi

All,

I too agree that we should start using the room.  Thanks much to Nina for the testing.  Keeping our eyes and ears (noses?) open to detect any change in  mold/fungal-spores etc. would be good.

Regards,
Prasenjit
