Hello all,
We are currently in Colorado.
I was mentioning this to Caroyln sometime back as I was concerned about the quorum especially for the topic of teachers bonus and teacher professional development.
I don't know if my email could count as a vote, but here are my thoughts..
For Professional development for teachers: YES. The amount of money allocated for professional development should allow a couple of teachers to attend conferences( every teacher gets an opportunity unless they do not want to use it), workshops and/ short courses that will enrich their teaching experience.
For Bonus for teachers: YES.
If I could have attended the meeting, the amount to delegate would have been something I could have discussed. Also, how much of the amount should be professional development an how much bonus.
I see these two categories as independent of each other and both are conditional on the financial health of our school. As it currently seems"OK", we can perhaps set a percentage of the amount we are left with in the budget towards bonus and professional development.
My thought is that the total money allocated towards professional development and bonus, should finally amount to such that we are still left with 60-70 % of the grand total. ( I do not have the numbers in front of me, I calculated roughly based on a $20,000 of the remaining money in the budget).
Any decision made should have a positive outcome for all our teachers - I
trust that the board will decide that in the right way.
With these thoughts,
Wishing you all a fun summer with your families,
Pallavi
P.S. I was just wondering how we could do our May and June board meetings in future, so we have most people and we can settle matters before the school year ends.
