Established by a United Nations resolution in 2007, the International Day of Non-Violence ("Non-Violence Day"), celebrated October 2, provides an opportunity to create practical acts of non-violence on a shared date. The United Nations General Assembly, desiring to secure non-violence, tolerance, mutual understanding and respect of diversity, invites individuals, organizations and nations to commemorate the International Day and to spread the message of non-violence. Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Non-Violence Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or it can involve getting your family, friends, organization, community or government engaged. The impact of millions of people in all parts of the world, coming together for one day of non-violence, is immense. For 2009, I recently created http://InternationalDayOfNonViolence.org website which makes it easy to share and find Non-violence Day events worldwide. Hopefully Marshal will be taking part in a global virtual event you can attend long distance !
