I can't be there, unfortunately. My sister is getting married and you better bet I'm going to be there : )This is a worthwhile effort. I doubt the landlords will purchase any appliances - we brought all of those items into this house, I believe. Maybe not the disposal, but I'm pretty sure we already replaced that at some point (or parts of it). Those are only like $100 and can be replaced pretty easily. I totally get the point, but I don't think they landlord will do it and we're in a weird limbo of negotiations with them right now with the house purchase, so I don't know how much leverage we have or how much we can expect to happen very quickly. This house absolutely needs to be cleaned up and looking amazing for the BMS Banquet (since we often get parents over) and for the beginning of the school year.

Thanks all for the feedback. I did send an email to our alumni listserve last Wednesday (8/7) regarding the house cleanup and will follow that up with another one tomorrow. Knowing this football thing was coming up for me, I didn't want to put a huge effort into driving attendance at this event because I knew I wasn't going to be able to commit to running the whole thing.
I both agree and disagree with you Jordan. The house is in bad shape right now. I completely agree that the outside should be taken much better care of for our landscapers. However, looking back at the past, especially the 1058 days, we didn't do much better. My first house cleanup at 1058 consisted of cleaning maggots out of the kitchen sink that had been there all summer, and cleaning the mess from the sump pump was backed up flooding the entire basement - two issues more disgusting than anything I've seen in the house this summer. I do not remember any sort of alumni participation in the house cleanup either. Care for the house got slightly better when we moved into the 401 house, but that deteriorated as well fairly quickly (and that was under my guide, so I deserve just as much blame as anyone else). The reality is that it is really difficult to convince 18-24 year old males that caring for a house like ours is extremely important. The dorms are the same way - even with maids who clean every day, there were times when my dorm experience was absolutely disgusting. There's no doubt that care for the house is in a downswing right now, but I think saying that it was so much better in our day is not entirely true. I feel like we should try to offer positive motivation/reinforcement rather than condescendence toward them.
Does anyone want to volunteer to contact the landlords about making improvements? I'm happy to do as much of the legwork as possible in leading the purchasing and installing that stuff Saturday. I'm not sure what the status of washers/dryers is, but I think replacing that dishwasher and garbage disposal are must-do items right away. If we're going to drive home the cleanliness of the house being important (and I think we should), we have to give the guys the right equipment and tools to do that before the school year starts. I think using that $1000 this weekend would be a good start. I'm not planning on addressing the carpet situation, just appliances.
Thanks all,
Cody
