Subject: Porter Springs volunteer day
Birders:
Lahontan Audubon Society is organizing a volunteer day at Porter Springs on September 26, 2009 in recognition of Public Lands Day. As part of the BLM Porter Springs Recreation Management Plan, new fencing material (steel pole) will be put up around the perimeter of the area replacing the barbed wire fence.
We are seeking volunteers to help with this fence project. Volunteers will spend the day taking down the barbed wire fencing and if resources allow, begin to construct the new steel pole fencing.
We plan to meet at Porter Springs at 9am on Saturday the 26th. If you are interested in helping out with this project, please RSVP to me, Ali Chaney by Wednesday September 16th.
Porter Springs is located about an hour outside of Lovelock in northern Nevada. It attracts a number of migratory species and is appreciated by a great number of Nevada birders. This fencing project will be one of the first projects in the plan implemented to help protect the habitat at Porter Springs for birds and other wildlife.
I hope you can join us!
Ali Chaney
