I noticed a few others are having the same issue of teacher assignment folders being empty - details from a previous poster below. I've used Doctopus for years and this has never happened before. Anyone know why this is happening or a have fix? Having an assignment linked in 2 places was really helpful for workflow. Thank you so much for any advice!

Detailed problem:
"When I wanted to access a student's work, I could look in either that student's folder on my Drive, or could go into my teacher folder, then into the folder for that assignment, and could find them all in the same place. Now, while that assignment sub-folder is still being created, it comes up empty. I haven't changed any settings or done anything differently when distributing assignments. Any help?"

I am also having the same issue. The fix that I have found is to search google drive for a portion of the name of the template. The output of the search will be a list of all the student copies. I then move those copies to the folder created during the distribution process (the one that you have noticed is empty).  I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. If I move the files, then my students can no longer access or review their material BUT I am able to create a shortcut which works. This seems cumbersome, though, for multiple classes and 100+ students. I'm wondering why this issue is happening and if there is any permanent fix to get the system working like it used to? Thanks for input if anyone knows a more sustainable fix!

Yes, this system is not ideal. They can actually still find the files if they search for them in their drive (they're also still available in the "shared with me" link) so depending on what we're doing, sometimes I leave them where they are and sometimes I move them into my Teacher folder. I completely agree that all of this is just a workaround and that it would be great if it either worked as before or if the script could be updated to create the necessary shortcuts during the distribution process.

I believe this issue has to do with Google's switch to shortcuts.  Files can no longer exist in two locations at once, they have a single home, and other locations are shortcuts.  I don't think that Doctopus has fully adapted to  that change, but most applications still work.

Google Classroom distributes copies of files to students very well, even better than Doctopus in my opinion, but it doesn't create group docs for group projects, and I strongly prefer Doctopus Goobrics over Google Classroom rubrics.

Best,
Risa
