I just started new jobs on a new spreadsheet and running into this error message frequently (Side note- I've been using Autocrat on many spreadsheets for a few years now without any issues):

Exception: Service Documents failed while accessing document with id#####

I tried to figure out which document the id is connected to that is being used by my jobs but cannot seem to find it.

I am currently manually running each one and either get the above error or get a timed-out message and have to re-run everything again.

Is this a backend issue or something I can resolve? Any insight would be most appreciated!

Are you trying to use a Team Drive?  Autocrat doesn't work with Team Drives.

Sorry I totally missed the reply. Same for me. I’m not using Shared Drive files. I learned that lesson the hard way! I had some help from my fellow work mates and they also were only able to run about 5-15 jobs at a time before getting the error message.

I am getting the same error.  I would like to know what we can do to avoid this? Is a timed sheet better?

The best way I have found is to delete everything that autocrat started to add like "will be started 6/16/2021".  I then re-run the script with some success.

Also, is there a way to run autocrat across multiple tabs?

Same issue here (for last week or so) - been using Autocrat without problems for months now.

Restarting the script every few minutes (after deleting half completed rows as also attempted by @Jay Strumwasser) is not a fix - the scripts might fail after one two rows currently. Or it might do 30+. Very inconsistent, and it means we have to nurse a script that previously would do 100s of rows without issue.

Any further thoughts/solutions on this?

Digging into this a bit more. My job script creates a new version of a template sheet from a row in master spreadsheet. Then it updates the content on this template and saves a copy as a pdf into a folder, then it deletes the sheet template.

Seeing this error when it can't finish the completion of the sheet before turning it into the pdf - thereby creating many empty Google Sheets in home folder. I'm able to match the ID in the error message with the last created sheet in the home folder.

Might this be using different folders for the jobs here causing issues?

Thanks for doing all the good digging. I wonder if Google changed something yet again in the Drive API? I agree that restarting the jobs manually is not a sustainable solution. We run many documents and procedures through Autocrat and sadly when the job is stuck it doesn’t generate an error email like the one Autocrat sends when the script errs. 

I understand Autocrat is open sourced… anyone have experience with manually adding the script to their needed spreadsheets? Would this resolve the issue?

I'm not aware of any changes.  

Does the job run manually?

I'm not aware of an easy fix.  Does this happen all of the time or just occasional?

template is still connected without issues.

Error message:

ERROR
Exception: Service Spreadsheets timed out while accessing document with id 1xqb9jOLT8CJlAY-6K-HoymQOQgiAQZJrzpRmlxVlh2B.

where 1xqb9jOLT8CJlAY-6K-HoymQOQgiAQZJrzpRmlxVlh2B is ID of duplicate sheet created in root directly of Drive, before it is converted to PDF.

I tried moving all assets into one folder - this didn't help...

Any thoughts?

How big is the template or how complicated?  Does it work if you make the output be a doc?

Can you share a copy of the template and a copy of the spreadsheet with glua...@gmail.com?  I will take a look.

I'm joining in here. O

  1. Ocasionally AutoCrat gets stuck on merge jobs and delivers the below email. This started occurring for me in June.
  2. It's a similar error to the once that launched the thread: Service Documents failed while accessing document.
  3. I searched Google Drive (not a Team Drive) and the respective sheet for the file ID, but it doesn't actually exist. 
  4. The templates are all connected and work fine. I'm also assuming it's note the template file that causes it, but the temporary output that AutoCrat creates. 
  5. The template is a single page GDoc with a single merge field. 

I will test whether GDoc over PDF output works. 

Curious if someone managed to resolve the issue?

Same here, we've used it for years with minimal issues. The last month have been experiencing the OP message. Has taken a good couple hours to nurse through a list of 300 or so records to merge. Sometimes only 2 or 3 (or even zero!) go through, other times I can get 100 (and everything in between). I was wondering whether time of day might impact it, I had better success doing a load on a SUnday afternoon.. so not sure if the load was easier then?

Is it random?  Does it only fail when there are multiple merge jobs on the same spreadsheet?

The nature of what we need Autocrat means "Multiple Output Mode" is more helpful, but switching to "Single Output" mode (step 4. File Setting) does prevent the error from occurring, at least on my sheets.

If there is a way to stop the error in "Multiple Output Mode" that would still be extremely helpful.

I also think that it's a problem with "multiple output mode".  While creating a new workflow, I was initially using single output mode and never saw the error.  As soon as I switched to "multiple output mode" and emailing the pdf, the same error started.    If this isn't resolved, I don't know how we can continue to use autocrat and it's a lifesaver!

I know! This is such a major bummer. I keep hoping this issue will be resolved somehow. I emailed the general New Visions directly (about a week ago) asking for clarification on why this is happening but have not heard anything back yet. I'll let you know if I hear anything back. Sadly, I think I'll start the search for an alternative. I cannot keep manually checking all these spreadsheets next school year.

Joe this started to happen to a new job today. Autocrat runs for a few rows, stops, then I see the same message: Exception: Service Documents failed while accessing document with id#####
