Autocrat V8 Update!

Hello everyone,

Next week, Google will update Autocrat to the latest Apps Script version (V8). This update is scheduled to roll out between Tuesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 11, 2026, though it may take a few days to appear in your account.

What you need to do:

• Reauthorize Autocrat: The next time you launch the application, a consent screen will prompt you to reaccept permissions. Please check "Select all" and click "Continue" to resume using Autocrat.

• Check your automated jobs: If you use time- or form-driven triggers, they will pause until you complete the reauthorization. You will receive an email notification when your triggers require attention. (see image below)

thank you for your email. It does mean the new version will be pubblished tomorrow June 9th? 

if yes why today Autocrat is not functionning?

This does mean until June 11th we might not be able to use Autocrat?

I am not able to use autocraat as we speak. the error i get is: Execution failed. The Rhino runtime is deprecated and no longer supported.Details.

Does this mean it will be solved automatically?

Same here. Unable to use. The only option is "help."

I received the same error message as Yasemin and I'm trying to resolve it. Any help would be appreciated! This is happening prior to the release of V8 and I am concerned.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We need to look a little closer but at this point it seems that Google is rolling out the V8 update.

We were planning on this update to happen tomorrow alongside some updates on our end that would have hopefully smoothed out any issues with transition from Rhino to V8.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are hopeful that tomorrows upgrade will resolve the issue. We will report back to this thread with any other updates or findings.

I don't even get an error.

People reaching out saying they are not receiving the intended merged document.

When I open the spreadsheet, I don't see an option to even "Open"

Just "Help"

I'm experiencing the "help only" error as well. Hopefully it will resolve shortly.

UPDATE:

We released the update this morning as planned and so far are seeing the issue resolved on our end.

Can you please re-try and let us know if you are able to run Autocrat as expected?

Note that starting now, the update will roll out over the next day, when this update reaches your account you will need to Reauthorize Autocrat:  on launch, the consent screen will prompt you to reaccept permissions. Please check "Select all" and click "Continue" to resume using Autocrat.

Hello,

I just saw it in my console :

I had partial access, and when I clicked “Authorize Access,” it turned green and said “Access Authorized.”

Then, in Google Sheets, the “Open” menu reappeared. When you open it, you need to grant access to the user. Now everything seems to be working.

My jobs did not run automatically, but when I went into Autocrat (yes, I see it once again), and clicked the play button, the old entries started to create the documents, at least until I apparently hit my quota.  Hopefully tomorrow I can create the rest of the backlogged files?

I reauthorized Autocrat, cleared the cache, even uninstalled and reinstalled Autocrat on a user level as before but still following problem at launch :

It is as if Autocrat was forbidden somewhere NOW.

When I check Admin console, it seems OK, I do not see Autocrat anywhere...

I am having this same issue. And not it says merge sequence starting and then closes without merging any documents.

After reauthorization in Google Workspace Console, Autocrat started to work.

The second issue was that it didn't work while I was signed in two different Google Workspace accounts at the same time in the same browser. Then I opened browser in incognito, signed in, reauthorised and now both accounts run Autocrat as they used to. Thank you 🙏

I can now run my job, and did not have to re-create the job, but none of the merge tags are working (see image below). 

Autocrat has not yet prompted me to re-authorize. I manually removed its access from "My Linked Apps" in my Google Account. I then re-authorized, but this did not fix the problem. 

Any recommendations?

Although I can now run my Autocrat job, the merge tags in my output file are not merging any data. They simply display as "<<SKU>>" or "<<Name>>" etc.
If I switch from "Single Output File" to "Multiple Output File," the merge tags work as expected. 
However, I need a single output PDF file for my use case. 
Could you please investigate?

Mine did this too.  I deleted those rows and opened the file to edit.  There is no need to actually edit, just go to the page where the tags are linked and save.  Then I ran it again and it worked just fine.

It’s interesting that I encountered the exact same issue. When I export these individual PDFs, it appears to work. However, as you mentioned, when I combine them into a single output file, I only see data on the first page. The rest of the pages are listed as tags, which seems to be the same as what you displayed.
It doesn’t seem like we’ve completely solved the problem yet. I tried exporting the files into a single Google document and got the same results.
For now, since we only have a small amount of data to extract, so I think I can use a third-party service to compile the PDFs into a single document. However, this solution is definitely not ideal.

for me, it repeats the same record (row 26) a bunch of times, repeats another random record and then populates the doc with the <<>> tags.

This is for a single output, no send.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted cache, deleted the repeating cell/row that kept repeating itself, approved access to autocrat, and still column row 23 of the spreedsheet continues to repeat itself when running the software before finally showing only the merge field texts <<first>> <<address>> in it's place in following documents. I am not sure why a update was needed but I sure wish we could opt out of it in the future to avoid things like this.

After investigating, I've found that jobs which use single output mode (where all of the documents are merged into a single doc) result in the document maintains the merge tags instead of actually merging the fields into the document. When I change those jobs to single output, the merge fields appear correctly on the resulting document.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for reporting the errors you are experiencing following the V8 update. This update to the V8 version of Google Apps Script was required by Google. Because Autocrat is built on Apps Script and relies on Google services to function, we had to implement this change.

Unfortunately, this transition has not been as smooth as we hoped. Our team is actively investigating the issues raised in this thread, which primarily fall into three categories:

• Google Quota Limits: A common error many of you are seeing is:

• GoogleJsonResponseException: API call to docs.documents.batchUpdate failed with error: Quota exceeded for quota metric 'Quota group for write operations' and limit 'Quota group for write operations per minute' of service 'docs.googleapis.com' for consumer 'project_number:539341275670'.

• We believe this is directly related to a Google API quota limitation. We have already contacted Google to request a quota increase for Autocrat and are currently awaiting their response.

• Tags Not Merging: If your tags are failing to merge, this is likely a byproduct of the quota error mentioned above (e.g., the job begins running successfully but stops merging once the quota limit is hit).

• Automated Jobs Not Running: If your jobs are running manually but failing to trigger automatically, resetting your triggers may resolve the issue. Several users have reported success using the steps below.

How to Reset Your Triggers

⚠️ Important: Before starting, please ensure you are logged into only one Google account. Having multiple accounts open simultaneously can conflict with Autocrat's permission settings.

1. Open the Autocrat modal and navigate to Manage My Triggers.

2. Verify that My Triggers has both a form and a time trigger listed underneath.

3. Disable the triggers and click Save.

4. Re-enable the triggers and click Save.

5. Go to your specific job, click through to Step 9, turn on both the form and time triggers, and click Save.

6. Close Autocrat entirely.

7. Re-open Autocrat, return to the Manage My Triggers page, and verify that both the Trigger Owner info and My Triggers info are visibly populated.

We are in close communication with Google regarding the quota restrictions and will provide an update here as soon as we have more news.

Hi, I have a problem with Autocrat after the update. When I try to generate labels with data, it works correctly up to a certain point, but then it starts generating blank pages from the template. How can I fix this?

Since the update and reauthenticating, an Autocrat job we have that merges with a Google Slide (so we can have custom page size) has stopped merging.  In the setup it finds the tags, but when it merges it doesn't merge the data but just gives the resulting file as exactly the same as the template.  Anyone else have this problem?

Thank you, The Cloudlab Team, for working on a fix!  We greatly appreciate it.  It seems like everyone in this thread is having the same issue... or, their issue is directly tied to the overall main issue.  Hopefully it will be fixed soon.  Also seems like the error / problem is in the hands of Google:

Google Quota Limits: A common error many of you are seeing is:

• GoogleJsonResponseException: API call to docs.documents.batchUpdate failed with error: Quota exceeded for quota metric 'Quota group for write operations' and limit 'Quota group for write operations per minute' of service 'docs.googleapis.com' for consumer 'project_number:539341275670'.
• We believe this is directly related to a Google API quota limitation. We have already contacted Google to request a quota increase for Autocrat and are currently awaiting their response.  

So.... we will all just wait for an answer.  :)  Hope to have my autocrat back up and running soon!

Hello,

I have done ALL of these steps yesterday.

I have disabled the triggers.

I then went back and clicked to step 9, and selected the Form Trigger.

You can see the job "working".

I then saved.

NONE of the form triggers work.

I created a brand new Google Form, Sheet, Mail merge, creating a brand new Form trigger.

It does not work.

It only works when run manually.

1. Open the Autocrat modal and navigate to Manage My Triggers.

2. Verify that My Triggers has both a form and a time trigger listed underneath.

3. Disable the triggers and click Save.

4. Re-enable the triggers and click Save.

5. Go to your specific job, click through to Step 9, turn on both the form and time triggers, and click Save.

I also tried every step that was suggested here, the only thing that worked for me and getting all my triggers to work just as before was the following:

1. I completely deleted the Autocrat add

2. I cleared all the cache in google chrome

3. I reinstalled the Autocrad add on

4. I went into each and every google spreadsheet where I had a merge job and first disabled both form and time trigger from manage triggers

5. I then opened the merge job, went to the last page and activated both time and form trigger from there, save, then closed autocrat and tried again, now it worked.

It was a time consuming job because I had to manually update every spreadsheet that had autocrat running like this.

What about when we get this error?:

We have already cleared the cache and cookies, uninstalled and reinstalled the add-on, updated Chrome, signed out of and back into the Google account...probably some other things I'm forgetting.

We have some updates regarding the recent technical issues you’ve been experiencing. Please see the status of each item below.

1. Google Quota Exceeded Error (Looks to be resolved)
We have successfully received a quota increase from Google.
If you were previously seeing the error below, it should now be resolved:
GoogleJsonResponseException: API call to docs.documents.batchUpdate failed with error: Quota exceeded for quota metric 'Quota group for write operations'...
Our backend logs show a significant drop in these errors. Please let us know if you are still experiencing this issue on your end.

2. Form Triggers Not Working (Under Investigation)
We are aware that form triggers are still failing for some users, and that the previously provided steps to reset them have not resolved the problem. Our team is actively investigating this.
Temporary Workaround to Try:
Please try enabling time triggers on those specific jobs.
Why? We want to see if successfully firing a time trigger will kickstart and re-engage the form trigger. Let us know if this works for you!

3. Tags Not Merging in Single Entity Mode (Under Investigation)
We initially believed the tag merging failure was tied to the Google quota issue, but we have received new reports that this is still occurring. Users who are reporting this issue are noting that is occurring with Google Slides
What we know so far:
Some users reported that their unmerged tags contained special characters (e.g., +, &).
Once those special characters were removed, the merge completed successfully.
If you are facing this issue, please check your tags for special characters as a temporary workaround while we look into a permanent fix.

It's not running correctly for me either. I have reauthorized, cleared cache, disabled triggers, re-enabled triggers, deleted the autocrat job, recreated the autocrat job, and still ONLY working if I manually run the job. I have found that if a NEW user has never used autocrat before and begins from scratch, they have no issues. I'm thinking MAYBE I missed something during re-authenticating Autocrat, but now there's no way to get back to that step of the process. 
Any suggestions from any of you?

Got it!!! This worked for me. 

Have the user go to their Google Account settings--Security--Third-party apps with account access. Remove Autocrat entirely. Then, re-open the Sheet, launch Autocrat, and when the prompt appears, ensure they check every individual checkbox before hitting Continue. 

It's that "Select All" in the Authorization that is the hicupp.

I deleted Autocrat and resigned in and connected all the permissions.  It completes the merge job, but it's still not correct.  First student (page) is good, and then the second page is duplicated 20 times, and skips those 20 following students.  This keeps happening every time I'm trying to run a new job.

Hi AutoCrat Support,

I'm hoping you can help with an issue we're experiencing.

Every night, I and many members of our team continue to receive "Authorization Required" emails asking us to reconnect AutoCrat. The add-on has already been reauthorized, and the associated jobs appear to be running normally.

At this point, more than 160 team members are receiving these notifications daily, which is creating a significant amount of unnecessary email traffic.

Could you please advise:

• Why these emails are continuing after reauthorization?

• Whether there is an additional step required to complete the authorization process?

• Whether these notification emails can be disabled for our users?

I've attached screenshots of the messages we're receiving.
