I am working on a Google Form to Google Sheet to Google Doc Template merge that includes standard text and number fields and 3 images (could be screen shots or PDF images that an individual uploads either from their computer or their Drive to the Form).  Once they submit the form, I would like AutoCrat to take that data and most specifically the actual images and merge them into my document template.  I have not been successful in using the Image option native to AutoCrat to make that happen.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what a PDF image is.  Google forms will store a link to the photo.  That is the link that must be used in the image merge tag.

See the FAQ that is located in the description of the group.  The image URL must match a specific format.  The image file must be hosted publicly.  Anyone with the link can view.

Joe - thanks for the response.  I mis-spoke on the PDF images.  The individual is going to be uploading screenshots or images saved on their own computer to a form which feeds the direct link to a GSheet.  I would then like that data to merge into individual documents to include the actual image, not just a link to the image.  Each time I try to do this it only places a link or just text into the merged document.  Any advice?

There is an option to display the image.  You can merge text, URL, or an image.

I hear you and I see the option to merge the image, but it is not working for me.  I'm sure it is something simple, but I cannot get it to work.

I want to merge an image that an individual has on their own computer, not available on the internet.

It can't be done.  The image has to reside someplace that can be found via a link. That means online.  Also, it has to be shared with anyone with the link can view.

The anyone one with a link isn't as bad as it sounds.  They have to have the link.  If you limit who can see the link, you are limiting who can see the photo.

In the FAQ there are certain items that must be in the URL.  Sometimes the only problem is something missing from the URL.

And then to be completely honest, there are times when all the rules are followed and some images will not show.  That is usually many images on the same page or using single output for many rows.

Did you look at the FAQ for help in reformatting the link?

Yes.

Here is my sample sheet.  I have the formulas added, but the images do not show up.  I added a screenshot of the images from my google drive.  Not sure which URL I am supposed to be using for the original image link

I tried the ":share" link and I tried opening the jpg file and copying the view link that shows in that window.  In both cases, the image will not show in the new Col E and will not show in the autocrat merge either.

Patrick,

That formula was to correct a problem with images collected via a Google Form.  Your URL is different than the URL when you have a file stored in your drive.

I managed to change the URL so it will work.  The new link brings back the thumbnail of the image.

I'm beginning to hate images and Autocrat.  They are so darn temperamental.

I hope this works for you.  I have multiple other projects on my plate including cutting the grass which I'm off to do right now.

I had no success with the formula in the FAQ. What has been working (with about 75% success rate) is  =arrayformula(if(row(A:A)=1,"Merge this",substitute(D:D,"drive.google.com/open?","doc.google.com/uc?")))

I've used Google Slides for my template, and for the image tag <<Merge this>> it didn't work until I used a labeled shape object for the tag (not a text object). Still occasionally AutoCrat gets stuck on "Starting..." or the image url won't work, despite it being shared publicly like all the others

Hope that helps folks! If anyone here does have success with the FAQ formula, I would love to hear about it.

I think you are correct that the FAQ needs changing.  I don't remember seeing your solution but will give it a try when I have time.

As you say, even when you get a URL that will work, if you have a lot of photos, there is a good chance that some will not merge.

I just did over a hundred rows and the best I can tell all of the photos appear n the single output document.

I think it is a combination of how busy are Google's computers.  How large are the image files.  Conditions outside of our control.

Hi Joe

Wanted to let you know your thumbnail link did work.  THANK YOU.

Care to share how you did that? so I could replicate it with other similar images for future projects?

Magic!  The formula is in cell D1 of the example.  I used an arrayformula.  Arrayformula
