Hello  everyone

 

 I hope your Spring fishing was great and that your summer fishing is in full swing, at least on the weekends! It’s a great time to get outside with family and fishing companions!

 

We thought it’d be a great time too, for a reminder about a wonderful book on easy access to our state’s streams, rivers, lakes and ponds – Fishing Without Falling in Connecticut – written by Nutmeg Chapter member Bobbi Kurman!

 

Bobbi’s very special book is a guide to finding places to fish (or picnic, etc.) for those who require easy safe access. She wrote it so these spots could be enjoyed by those whose disabilities, age, or other circumstances would otherwise make this tough.

 

We’ve sold literally hundreds of copies over that past couple of years, and it turns out that while it’s popular with disabled veterans, grandparents taking the kids fishing, etc., fully mobile folks of all ages buy it for great tips on spots where they can cast more easily, launch their kayak, etc. It is also a fantastic resource for teaching young kids to fish.

 

All eight counties in the state are represented, and Bobbi’s included almost 50 Fishing Without Falling spots, tested by a physically impaired person. The criteria for all sites were easy access from a parked car to the water, and easy access for fishing (and wading if permissible) and Bobbi didn’t replicate the CT DEEP guide sites for the disabled already available. And the color photos, descriptions and directions are terrific! (We've attached copies of the cover and two sample pages.)

 

Fishing Without Falling retails for $20, but the Board of Directors thought Nutmeg members should have a 25% discount which brings the price down to $15. And of course all proceeds will support the Nutmeg Chapter’s important work in stream restoration, conservation education, etc.  Sound like a book you’d like to have, or give to someone?
