Jane Street is a financial firm, and one of the biggest users of OCaml. They maintain their own alternative to the OCaml standard library: https://bitbucket.org/yminsky/ocaml-core/wiki/Home

Dear all,

This is an ad for a recruitment talk from a Wall Street financial trading firm that develops algorithmic trading software in OCaml. This goes to show that, contrary to popular belief, quirky languages such as OCaml, Haskell, Prolog have very serious (though admittedly niche) uses, especially in areas where the reliability of software is of great concern. And since many of you have become aquainted with such languages during your days in 2104, you might be interested in the job opportunities they advertise.

Dear Dr. Voicu,

Greetings! My name is Elizabeth and I work for a US quantitative proprietary trading firm called Jane Street. Hope this email finds you well!

I wanted to reach out to you because I understand you teach the class Programming Languages Concepts and cover functional programming languages in the syllabus. Jane Street is one of the biggest industrial users of functional programming (OCaml being our language of choice) and we use it in all areas of the firm.  Here are some information regarding our technology you might be interested in looking at:

A talk given at CMU about why we use functional programming: https://ocaml.janestreet.com/?q=node/61
Our programming blog: https://ocaml.janestreet.com/
Articles we've written about functional programming in the real world: http://janestreet.com/technology/articles.php

We have been actively recruiting students from NUS in the past 2 years for our three offices (New York, London, Hong Kong -- the latter office being the focus for our Asia recruitment efforts) for positions such as Quantitative Trading, Software Development and Quantitative Research. We had a Software Development intern from NUS last Christmas and this summer, we hired a NUS student for our Quantitative Trading position. There are many talented students from NUS and we hope to continue our success recruiting there!

Next Monday Sept 17, we will be at NUS giving a recruitment talk and it would be great if you drop by if you have time and perhaps help us invite some of your students who you think would be interested in us! I've attached the event details and one of our posters.

Thank you for your attention and I hope you can join us next Monday!

Regards,
Elizabeth
