Talk for this Friday Hacks (3rd Feb)
This week, we have a talk titled "The StartupRootsSG Experience - technical challenges in the top startups in Singapore" by James Chan (Neoteny Labs Investment Manager), Laurence Putra Franslay (Part time student, Full time hacker) and Divyanshu Arora (NUS Student), all of whom are active in both the local Startup and Geek scene. As always, free pizza will be served and then general hacking will commence after the talk.

Talk details:
If you are a co-founder in a tech-based startup, you will need to be prepared for the technical challenges up ahead. The talk will touch on the technical challenges that founders face in the early and mid stages of a startup, especially on the issue of scaling in size when technology is used.


Speaker Profile:
James Chan is Principal at Neoteny Labs, and works closely with General Partner Joichi Ito on the fund and its portfolio companies.

Prior to Neoteny Labs, James served as Investment Manager at Walden International Singapore, where he worked on a fund organized under the National Research Foundation’s Early Stage Venture Capital Fund Scheme. In 2007, James served as Investment Manager at Infocomm Investments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

James completed his Double Major: B.Sc in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon, and earned his M. Sc in Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University.

Laurence Putra Franslay is a Computer Science major from NUS, and the founder of a social enterprise selling desktops at low prices to poor people in Indonesia. In addition, Laurence is quite active in the geek scene in Singapore, having most recently been one of the organisers of Geekcamp. More about him at geeksphere.net.

Divyanshu Arora is a Computer Science major from NUS. His time is mostly split among web development, linux sys administration, and random hacks. And also in reading interesting books. Find him at darora.com.
