I installed OSx mountain lion, and now I realize that it doesn't support MS Word, I never thought that this would be the case when upgrading to mountain lion? I am in real trouble now. Please help. All my documents are in MS word because my office uses MS word. This is like that i have just bought a serious problem in to my work and life!!!!

One big problem I have found is that Word2011 is not opening any of my old word documents that have "/" in their title. As a lot of my old files include the date in their title (for example: accounts 03/07/2005) this is a pain. There is a workaround: which is to change the "/" to a "." (so 03/07/2005 becomes 03.07.2005) but this is unsatisfactory as some documents i merely wish to view (and keep them as created and last saved 5 years ago etc) rather than modify and thus look like they are new documents.

For example: if you assign Word2011 to desktop 2, and you go to desktop 1 and open a word document, then it opens in desktop 1 and not desktop 2. Furthermore, on the same assignment of Word2011 (i.e. on desktop 2) if you restart your mac: word 2011 starts opening on desktop 1. Open any word document on desktop 1 and it opens in desktop 1, irrespective of the application's desktop assignment.

Start Word, and check whether the problem still occurs. If the problem still occurs, exit Microsoft Word, and then restore the com.microsoft.word.prefs.plist file to its original location. Then, go to the next step. If the problem seems to be resolved, you can move the file to the trash.

Note If you do not locate the file, the program is using the default preferences.

Brodie was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the elder son of Mary Ann Brodie and Richard Brodie, a child psychologist. He graduated from Newton South High School and entered Harvard College in the fall of 1977, concentrating in applied mathematics with an emphasis on computer science. He left Harvard after his sophomore year and moved to Palo Alto, CA to work for Xerox Corporation's Advanced Systems Division (ASD), where he met Charles Simonyi and helped develop the Bravo X word processor for the Alto computer.[3] Simonyi became a mentor to Brodie at Xerox and took him along when he moved to Microsoft in 1981.

Users can view publications in Microsoft Word (.doc) format if they have Word, version 6.0 or higher, installed on a computer. Word documents can also be viewed with many other word processing software programs. Additionally, Microsoft offers a FREE Word file viewer that can be downloaded at the Microsoft Download Center.
