Equiano was a free African man who lived in London in the 1780s. He was part of
group of free Black men called the Sons of Africa who campaigned against
slavery. On 29 April 1789, he published his amazing life story which doubled as
a critique of slavery. It became an international bestseller. He then travelled
the UK giving lectures on the evils of history.
His story reveals the truth about the evils of Transatlantic slavery and the
differences between slavery in Africa and Transatlantic chattel slavery.
Equiano was a renowned abolitionist anti-slavery campaigner.
