As I am sure you know, Mumia Abu-Jamal was a journalist and writer before his conviction for killing a police officer in 1981. He has been in prison continuously since then, following his exposure of the racism and corruption involved in the bombing of the MOVE movement in Philadelphia.
Through prison interviews, archival footage, and dramatic readings, and aided by a potent chorus of voices including Cornel West, Alice Walker, Dick Gregory, Angela Davis, Amy Goodman and others, this film explores Mumia's life before, during and after Death Row.
This
documentary about Mumia will be shown on Saturday as part of the
African Odysseys series at BFI London South Bank. Showing with Let the Fire Burn.
