Nurses PUSH, ACT-UP, and SNAP Collaborative AIDS Discussion
Wednesday, October 29
12:00-1:00pm
NEB 112

Nurses PUSH, ACT-UP Philadelphia (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) and SNAP (Student Nurses at Penn)--acronym friendly much?--have partnered to bring in speaker Val Sowell and others from ACT UP on the issue of AIDS as a priority in the White House. Come out this Wednesday for some free food and great insight, co-sponsored by yours truly and SNAP!

From Val:
"The presentation is definitely not a lecture-style thing. We call it a "teach-in," and the idea is that we give people some background info on an upcoming action, and then get people motivated to join us, and answer any questions they might have. We solicit a lot of the presentation from the audience themselves; it's more like a facilitated discussion than a straight-up lecture.

As for who should attend, we are primarily looking for any people who are interested in joining us and taking action to put pressure on an elected official, regardless of orientation/gender. It probably does make sense to have a joint presentation, like you suggest. The action does not have an explicit LGBT focus, but it's never far from our demands. One of our demands for this rally is to stop funding abstinence-only-until-marriage education, partially because it entirely excludes LGBT people (but also because it just doesn't work!) Also, at least one of the presenters will probably be LGBT. Who can come to present depends on when it's set for. [...]"

Come harness the energy and commitment to change you demonstrated during last week's AIDS walk!! As always, we welcome any interested LGBT person or ally. Hope to see you there!
