Good Morning,

As a result of COVID-19, we are going remote for the remainder of the semester and trying to figure out what that will look like. Is anyone willing to share how they are providing services during this time?

Thanks,
Beth

HI Beth.  This is how I am handling it.  We still have a small group of students that live on campus and will need healthcare prn.  I feel they still need to know they are cared for.  This is what I sent to students.  I checked and the Google Hangouts we subscribe to is HIPPA approved.  What are you thinking about doing?

Here are some things I would like you to know:
1)  I am available.   Anyone who has questions or concerns is free and encouraged to contact me via the phone or email listed below.
2)  I have set up the ability to visit with you also virtually through Google Hangouts for a face to face virtual health evaluation.  I am able to set up appointments on your google calendar to meet with you this way.  You too can request a virtual visit/meeting through Google Hangouts (in your midlandu.edu gmail account) as well.  Your request will show in my Gmail and on my calendar.
3)  If you need to be evaluated by your Primary Care Physician's Office, I will let you know.  You are also free to call them directly if you choose to.
4)  If you would like to be seen in the Student Health Center, I am still available by appointments only.  At this time, I am asking you to contact me via phone, email or virtually before you come in so I can ensure my office is complying with social distancing.

Thank you for sharing! We are at the beginning phase of transitioning to entirely remote services. Fortunately, we do not have housing on campus so essentially no one will be on campus.

We plan to offer "ask the nurse" by phone and email, but I would like to also have an online/social media presence with daily quotes, tips, links, challenges-
encourage students to complete eCHECKUP & our Opioid education video and knowledge checker. Then do weekly drawings for amazon or fast food gift cards

I want to update our web page- resources for free/low cost health & Substance Abuse community resources and to provide info for how to find and join our daily programming.

I am struggling with figuring out the best platform for providing that online presence. Yesterday was one of my four daughter's birthday, so we decided we were going to have drinks and a virtual party, they are all professionals in their early to late thirties and we unsuccessfully tried to connect using 3 different apps! I'm not feeling encouraged about that being a good idea.

I have an online meeting with my Dean today, so hopefully I will have a better sense of life moving forward. In the meantime any conversation/ideas/ successes/ failures... are wonderful!

Take care,
Beth

Beth,
Marymount University SHS is available via email or phone call.  We are only able to triage patients due to our insurance's limitations.
In order to make the ~50 students left on campus feel like they are still being cared for, we are in the process of making "first aid kits" for each of them, with instructions of what to do if they do get sick.  The kits include cold medication, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, antacids, and a thermometer.
I am hoping to get them out to the students and residential staff next week.
Our counseling services are being offered virtually.
Hope this helps...let me know if you have any questions.
Jennifer
