I'm trying to get the Dropbox app working on an Amazon fire stick. There's no way to do so via conventional means. That is, there doesn't appear to be a formal application release for the fire stick. But the fire stick is an Android device and one can install Dropbox "manually" (i.e., by allowing installation from external sources, finding an .apk and installling). When I do so, Dropbox indeed installs. I can even login. But after that, the menu buttons don't work and it's impossible to navigate. It's not functional at all. I'd love to hear if someone brighter than I has figured this out.
Yes, the problem persists after re-installing Dropbox on my fire stick. But I found a solution. Problem solved. I can navigate the Dropbox app on my fire stick if I install the Mouse Toggle for Fire TV app per these instructions. This little app turns the fire stick remote (after fast double-clicking the play button) into a mouse. Then with the mouse functionality enabled, I can scroll through and work with the Dropbox app on the fire stick without a problem. A second working solution is/was to install a third party file exploring app--one that lets one connect to a cloud storage account. At this writing, ES Explorer is Amazon's default suggested file management app. But I don't recommend it. It's pricey. I much prefer Solid Explorer where this version installed okay on my fire stick.

The most immediate issue with the above combination is that that the left nav bar in Dropbox doesn't work. I'm talking about the menu that appears after one clicks the three horizontal lines at the top-left of the Dropbox for Android home screen. I can click on those three horizonal lines and the nav bar opens. However, the (very faintly highlighted) selection is stuck on the "Home" option. I can't scroll to any of the other menu items such as Settings.
The instructions for installing Kodi on Fire TV are useful if they are not already outdated. Here is a link I sent someone recently of a YouTube video that gets it right, and I have installed Kodi on 3 Fire stick using it:
Regarding the My Cloud app, yes, it is the app developed for accessing your MC NAS from MOBILE devices like phones and tablets to stream/play media from the NAS to your device. The app has a built in media player.
It cannot access the Fire TV, though. But, you do not need it or another app to do this. The Fire TV w/Kodi enables you to access media files on your NAS (with Kodi), and Kodi will play the media (audio or video) on a TV via the Fire stick. connected to it.
thanks for the lead on MRMC it look promising, trying the LITE version to see if it will cache my home videos on my gige network hardwareired. not sure the Firestick is up to the task, so we will see. maybe buy the $3 version if it works
thank you!!! I just wanted to see if it cached from my two 6 TB video and picture NAS boxes and it does the 17 movie limit was no big deal for testing and i wanted to feel the user interface and to see how easy discover was etc etc.
It is important to connect Fire TV to 5g wireless signal for faster operation for video streaming. If wireless signal is too weak at Fire TV, for $15, Amazon makes an Ethernet connector for the Fire TV (which I use). If these conditions are met, remaining problems likely due to video files.
Good morning, I have a fire TV, a Panasonic Smart TV and a Samsung TV plus. I was told by representative that it would work on all three TVs. I will fourth-generation white tablo and when I tried to use it it tells me I have a weak signal. I downloaded the white on my fire TV and televisions are working proper. I attempted to reinstall on the fire TV and gave me was the black box please help.
There is a different app for the 4th gen Tablo (the white one) vs the legacy Tablo units. Make sure you are trying to install the correct app (the app with the blue background icon is the one you need for the 4th gen Tablo).
My Roku Ultra 4660X os 12.0 will not play recordings made on my Tablo 4th gen. I select play and I get a blank screen with the show title in the upper left corner. I can click forward through the thumbnails but it will not play them. My FireTV stick 4K max plays them just fine.
Unfortunately it is not possible. I have tried the many options and ways to install the apps. Still I am using Free channels with Firestick, and the associated apps to enjoy the video content on Firestick.
I tried so hard to install the System app on the Firestick But found out that it is just no possible. So,I tried using the Screencasting - ( cause Google Play Store has it) .OR Somtimes i just try to sideload the apps - used aptoide on firestick - works great.
I am currently using the first generation of the 4K Max released in 2021 and it does not handle TrueHD at all. Freezes constantly but plays fine when I change it to 5.1 sound. I don't want to buy one unless i know for sure.
I have a the second generation 4K Max (2023) and it will bitstream 7.1 TrueHD Atmos to my AVR. The Fire OS audio setting of "Best Available" doesn't seem to work, you need to set it to "Dolby Digital" and then it will do passthrough. It plays fine in Plex, Emby, and Kodi. DTS:X has issues in Plex and Emby but Kodi v20 or better has it working.
I'd also recommend quality USB 2.0 ethernet adapter. The fire sticks seem to struggle with even modest bitrate 4K video + high definition audio over a local network on WiFi. SMB read speed performance is particularly bad. I got a Cable Matters OTG adapter on Amazon for like $18. It has made for a very solid playback device after that.
I ask because for mine (2021), if I set my Fire Stick to Dolby Digital, it will play the TrueHD movies fine with the TrueHD sound selected. However, my sound bar reports that it's Dolby Digital sound and not Atmos. If I switch the Fire Stick to Dolby Digital Plus, it will freeze playing TrueHD sound, as well as when it's set to Best Available (which is the only option that says it supports Atmos).
TrueHD audio does not get passed through on the "Dolby Digital". The Firestick must be set to "Best Available."
TrueHD sound does work now with no picture freezing. So, that's a plus.
DTS audio stopped working. Picture does not freeze as it did with TrueHD, but have to switch to some other audio in Emby for any sound to be heard.
When I first bought my TV (UE43MU6175) all the HDMI sources set up perfectly including my Amazon Fire Stick, which was scanned and recognised as such by the TV, worked with the universal remote and had a proper fire stick icon for the source.
I had unplugged my firestick for a few days and boom it stopped working properly. Omg for 2 weeks we all would go back and forth using the firestick remote for the firestick and the Samsung for the tv. I did a factory reset, changed the name used upper case when appropriate went on firestick in settings and changed wthe hdmi and cec. I watched videos and called samsung. I went back on this page and read that you have to put it in the orginal hdmi port and to take out anyother hdmi. The only thing I had plugged in was the playstation. I unplugged that then plugged the firestick in the 4th hdmi (which is where I orginally set it up and it started working again. The amazon logo and name came up on the hdmi port listed 4 on the tv source. I hope you all are able to get the same results. Thank you to the man who posted to solve my problem
None of the solutions here were working for me. I couldn't control my firestick with my Samsung tv. And I couldn't get to the firestick by pressing home on the firestick remote. I reset my TV and my firestick to no avail. I even tried renaming manually like others suggested. But nothing was working. After months of going nuts I came across a similar issue people had with chromecast. All they did was reset their power strip. So I decided to actually unplug my TV which I didn't think of doing. And now my TV remote controls my firestick and I can turn on or switch to my firestick TV input using the home button on the firestick remote.
I should have added that the more significant convenience issue is there is no number pad for entering a channel selection. With hundreds of channels, this is very inconvenient. And it does not help much to simply having a favorite you can go to as there is no way to move up or down a channel. What is really needed is a remote control similar to a TV remote to search and select channels.
Have you confirmed that you can create Favorites in in your Xfinity account independent of the Fire Stick (you can't create the favorite with the stick). After you create a favorite using the Xfinity clicker with your TV or online, it takes a while for the Favorite to appear in the Xfinity Stream app in the Fire Stick. I assure you it works.
