An initiative, to foster a sense of community, provide resources for personal, professional, and career development, increase interdepartmental communication, and create an open forum for the postdoctoral fellows of Northwestern University
Northwestern University Postdoctoral Forum (NUPF) is an initiative to enhance the postdoctoral experience at Northwestern University by supporting a community of postdoctoral fellows through opportunities for improved communication, professional development, and social interaction. The Forum is structured to address the intellectual and social needs of postdoctoral fellows across various departments and centers on the Evanston and Chicago campuses. NUPF has established multiple goals: foster a sense of community, provide resources for personal, professional, and career development, and increase communication among fellows.
NUPF fills a unique niche at Northwestern University. While postdoctoral fellows within the University’s schools, colleges, departments, centers, and institutes benefit from working with prolific faculty members, several key areas involving professional and personal development have the potential for enhancement. Along with providing a communication conduit between postdoctoral fellows, faculty members and the University, The Forum will offer postdoctoral fellows a range of programming to supplement their research agendas and postdoctoral training. NUPF will work closely with the University administration, existing student groups and key University Offices (e.g. The Graduate School, the office of human resource, Office of Research, the Provost’s Office), in order to augment the postdoctoral experience. The Forum has put together a tentative programming schedule, which includes social events, professional development opportunities, and alumni networking events.
NUPF will be advised by The Graduate School, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and an advisory board comprised of NU faculty members, NU staff and representatives from external industries and organizations. The Forum plans to have a web presence, publish announcements, advertise campus resources, and increase communication within the postdoc community. Thus, The Forum will serve as a resource for new, current, and former postdoctoral fellows.
