Yesterday my MS account got hacked and my original email was removed and i couldn't access my other (OutLook) email to access the account. Then all my account's got changed to that (OutLook) Email, even my pc. I had to do a PC reset because they had access to my PC. I got everything back though and activated 2FA at all my accounts, but the sad thing is that my minecraft account is also connected to that email. Is there a way to change the email so i can get access to it again? Or can i lock that (OutLook) Email so the hackers dont get access to my minecraft account? I would really like to know because i spend much time on that account.

I'm trying to setup Minecraft for my daughters on their own OS X accounts of our new computer. At this point I'm using normal un-restricted accounts while I troubleshoot. Whatever account I "install" minecraft on it will work. But if I switch users and launch it then I get the error "Minecraft updater - Unable to start Minecraft, if you are running from a dmg, please drag to Applications and try again."

I am not running the DMG. I've installed it via drag and drop to the apps folder and then deleted the dmg etc. So it works on the users account that I install it but that error pops up on any other accounts that I try to open minecraft with later.

The fix I found was to look at the permissions of the Application. /Applications/Minecraft.app I noticed that they were Owner: R+W,Admin: RO, Everyone: RO. I initially changed this at the app level by doing a "Get Info" and changing them to all being R+W. This did not fix it. I then navigated to the app file and right-clicked and selected "Show Package Contents". Then selected the "Contents" Folder and right-clicked and selecting "Get Info". At this info page I unlocked(bottom right corner) and changed both admin and everyone to R+W. then I selected the gear (bottom middle) and selected "Apply to enclosed Items...". At the prompt click "OK". then the app opens in the other accounts.

The root application should be installed in the Applications folder. If it's parked somewhere in a users folder that's likely the issue for trying to run under multiple accounts. If it is already in the applications folder it's possible the game is linked to the account you used when the purchase was made, but I don't know for sure. I do think you're going to get better traction on the Minecraft forum for this questions. - as far as OS X is concerned it's as you said "This *should* work." - but this assumes it should work the way you want and not the way the developers intended.

Ok, first off I installed it in the admin account originally and on my latest try. As far as "root". It's in the root applications folder but the "application support" folder for minecraft is in my admin user profile and not the root from what I can tell. When I get home maybe I'll try to move that folder and see if it helps. Though I'm not sure if that will confuse the app since it's likely looking in that specific location it was installed.

No, it's not. It was actually purchased on a different computer at my parents. It installed and worked on this computer ok but just for whatever account it's installed to directly. I can overwrite the install from another users profile on the system and then it works from that profile only.

The developers intend for this to work as far as I can tell. It just doesn't. I believe there must be a bug in their software or something. That link even proves this by mentioning how to set things up with multiple users and block each other from using each-others worlds etc.:)

I'm 70% sure it didn't auto generate those files for the new user accounts on our brand new system though. So that could be the problem. Maybe I can duplicate those files from the user account that works and paste them for one of the new users. Worth a shot...

John, as of today, I have the exact same issue as you experienced. Although I did have Minecraft working on multiple user accounts on a MacBook Pro running 10.10.5 *before* updating to the new Mac launcher for Minecraft. After I updated to the new Minecraft launcher this morning, I started having this issue. I agree with your hunch that this is likely a bug in the new Minecraft launcher for Mac. Possible solutions:

I encountered this recently. What I discovered is that the .app is correctly installed in /Applications However the launcher and related data is installed to /Users//Library/Application Support/minecraft Every other user that attempted to launch the .app would fail with the error the OP reported. Simply changing the .app and it's Contents folder to R+W for everyone did not solve my particular issue.

Microsoft Account support is now available on the launcher's Beta Stable branch. Please see the update on 5/22/21 for more information. Please see the blog post -for-microsoft-accounts-is-now-available.165

If you've read the recent MC account migration ( -us/article/java-edition-moving-house) and you use Technic Launcher (or any other custom launchers), then do not migrate your account (to a Microsoft account) or you will be unable to use the launcher.

The new auth system that Minecraft uses after this migration isn't support by any MC launchers other than the vanilla launcher, nor do we currently have any information about it so we can implement it.

When? According to Mojang, you'll be forced to migrate your account starting in early 2021. We hope to have support for their new auth system by then. The migration is currently not ongoing.

What if I create a new Minecraft account? Minecraft accounts created on December 1st, 2020 and later, are bound to Microsoft accounts already, and won't be able to use the Technic Launcher, or any other third-party launcher, until Mojang/Microsoft create a solution we can use.

The FTB/Curse/Twitch/Overwolf/whatever they're now, just use the Vanilla launcher. So you're running 2 launchers in order to play. The majority of other launchers, including ours, re-implement the auth flow and other functions of the Vanilla launcher in order to not have to install it.

There are other launchers that have implemented a solution for MS accounts, but it's based on reverse-engineered information and we could get a Cease & Desist from Microsoft if we went down that route.

Is it not possible just to remove this login process for people on Microsoft accounts? I understand you do this to make sure that the person has a full copy of the game, but surely that should be something Mojang are concerned about. If they are not making this easy on you, then you should not worry about doing their work for them. I've got a server where some people who've migrated recently cannot access the server anymore. Something surely has to be done?

Quite frankly, yes. It seems that Mojang are dragging their feet on this, and from looking at what people (legitimate Microsoft accounts) are saying about being unable to access certain MP servers, then absolutely yes. The job of policing cracked accounts should be on Microsoft, not places like Technic. If Microsoft gave effective tools that allowed legitimate players access here, then this idea would never have crossed my mind. But at the minute, again, absolutely yes.

What I was getting at was I read that other launchers reverse engineer the login aspect, but Technic won't do that due to cease and desist concerns. Surely Mojang/Microsoft wouldn't do that, or they would have already done this to others? Surely they would use their brain to understand that there is no other avenue for Microsoft accounts (which they are now forcing us to move to).

My frustration is not held here with Technic, it's purely aimed at Mojang/Microsoft. I just don't want to end up shutting my server off to move it to another mod-pack or vanilla. Do you know, are Mojang/Microsoft actually doing anything at all on this front, or is it going to be that it effect so few people (in ratio of the total playerbase) that they just won't care? Bah.

We're still waiting, but if nothing comes soon then we might have no option but to roll the reverse engineered stuff. We already have people who are unable to play Technic packs because new accounts are MS accounts, so I definitely understand and share your frustration with this.

Well, I mean, I just bought Minecraft, as meaning I have a Microsoft account for Minecraft: Java Edition, and I'm only trying to get my modpack running, and I find it quite frustrating. Nah, real frustrating. I do understand the concern of cracked people being able to use you're launcher, but to be honest, the migration is said to be in early 2021, so if you could only just let go of the Minecraft.net Login and use the Technic login for the meanwhile until the migration has begun, that would be really awesome. I am told I am not a man of the brightest ideas, so I would completely understand if you find this suggestion really crappy, but that's the best idea that popped in my head that no one else had.
