Subject: Violence against domestic workers

Dear friends in CHODAWU,
I have noted with alarm the rising rate of violence against domestic workers in Tanzania, with some of the violence leading to death.
I have also noted an increase in child domestic workers and in child sex workers.
Furthermore, I have noted with apprehension the amount of trafficking which takes place of small girls being taken from their natal homes and brought to work in Dar es Salaam as child domestic workers or sold into sex slavery.
I was one of the team members who designed the ILO/IPEC program and I have campaigned for such practice to stop but it seems the incidents are on the increase, at an alarming rate.
What should be done?
1. Map the interventions that should be done to stop this heinous crime.
2. Raise awareness through radio and Local Governments to make parents in rural communities become aware that when agents come to look for little girls with the promise of getting the children vocational training in sewing or cookery and then find them jobs, the agents are in fact human traffickers and should be reported to the nearest local authority.
3. Campaign for the Rights of Children in the way Tanzania has national laws and has signed International Charters to protect children.
I expect your organization shall take this into account and if CHODAWU needs support in mapping, I'm always available to lend the support.
