Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has tried adding in more than one step to provide multiple hints in one single question part. I am trying to drip feed hints for a particular question, so that the student can attempt a question after one small hint but then request another hint if the first one wasn't enough and so on.

I find that using "Add a step" within a part just adds in the new hint at the end of the first one, so that they don't appear separately - i.e., there is only one "Show steps" button and the student gets both hints together if they click the button.

I can simply create another part for the new hint but it looks a bit clunky. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this or has a workaround.

Thanks!
Clodagh

This is one of the use cases for explore mode. While thinking about how to add multiple steps to a part, I realised that there were so many different ways of presenting them that it really needed a new question mode.
There's an example of how to offer a selection of hints in explore mode at https://numbas.mathcentre.ac.uk/question/63520/offer-hints-at-different-levels-of-detail/

Hi Christian,

That's great - I took a look at your example and have tried something similar for my question. It works perfectly - thanks a million.

Best wishes,
Clodagh
