recovering lost parts / advice from a downloaded question

Hello,
I have had the misfortune of losing two new parts and the accompanying
advice I wrote when I updated a question. (I'm guessing I had the old
version of the question open in another tab and that overwrote the new
again after downloading.)

Is there any way of getting something back (in particular what I wrote
for the advice, as it was fiddly) from the downloaded "standalone"
package? Or do I have to write it all again...

It happens. If the downloaded version is, in fact, the version you want then you can either upload the zip as a new question or you can unzip the file, open the source.exam file in a text editor and search for the string "advice", you should be able to copy the part you want and then paste it into the HTML editor of the advice section of your question on the numbas editor. Does that make sense? 

If it isn't in the source, and you didn't have a checkpoint in the editor then it sounds like it has been lost.

Each downloaded package contains a file called source.exam, which contains the source code for the exam and its questions. You can upload that to the editor.

Losing work when you have the same question open twice is annoying, and in the long term we need to do something to stop it happening. The ideal would be synchronous collaborative editing. That would take a lot of work, though!
