Request: basic file management tools?

Hi Christian and all,

I've been using Numbas for several years now, and by this point I have 18 projects and thousands of questions/exams. This summer is my time to start organising it all! The addition of folders and queues looks like it's going to be incredibly helpful here, so thanks for that.

However, could I request a few more file management tools? A few examples of things that I would find really helpful:

• a search function (by name, tag, description...) within a project/folder
• an "undo" button when I've accidentally clicked "replace this question with a copy", so that half of my project folder isn't littered with "Billy's copy of Billy's copy of Billy's copy of...", which makes looking through questions alphabetically all the more difficult!
• an easy way of renaming questions within exams and in the "browse this project's content" folder, so that I don't have to enter each question to rename it
• mass upload/download/deletion of questions/exams, so that I can move things between my local editor instance and the online editor
• mass addition/removal of questions to/from queues

On a related note: the "move selected items" button isn't working for me at the moment. I'm currently trying to move a question out of a folder, to the parent folder, and I can get this far (see image). However, when I click "Move", the dialog box disappears, and nothing happens. As far as I can tell, there's no option to move a question from e.g. within the question itself, so it seems to be stuck there for now...

I second this request. I have always wondered how Numbas claims extensive and widespread usage with such primitive file management and UI that exists today. I am sorry for being blunt, but fact is fact. It is very painful to organise folders and files, and copy, delete, rename, etc in the present form. This should be the first task now. Adding other features or tools can wait. Thanks.

These are good suggestions, Billy.

It's not completely obvious from the interface, but if you search from a project's home page or while looking at a folder, the search is restricted to just that project.

I'm actually working on adding bulk exports now. It's long overdue, I think.

It looks like there's a bug with moving items back to the top of the project. I'll try to fix that now.

I've logged the other suggestions in the to-do list.
