Hello,
I'm trying to use \simplify[!basic] because I want to show the steps of
which numbers are used where in the calculation of the complex inner
product. However, it doesn't put a bracket round negative numbers, even
though the documentation
https://numbas.mathcentre.ac.uk/question/22839/when-does-the-basic-ruleset-get-turned-on/
seems to suggest to me that it would have a bracket. (Ok that is not for
multiplication but for minus minus, but it's a similar situation.)

Access to the question
https://numbas.mathcentre.ac.uk/question/share/view/196b14cc-e1cb-4da5-97a7-fd44c6e126cd

Is that on purpose or an oversight?

Also, I just wanted to say esp to Christian: I am having to learn Onyx
now for my new job, and I really really miss Numbas! Your user interface
is just soooooo much better, and the documentation is so great. So
thank you for all your brilliant work on Numbas, and I wish they would
update their VLE here so I could still use Numbas in it... (But its the
same VLE for the whole federal state so I doubt it will happen).

PS: It only happens when one of the numbers is real rather than mixed
complex... Sorry I didn't put in a more basic case.

I have now made a more basic case:
https://numbas.mathcentre.ac.uk/question/share/view/3b4427f3-ad8d-4c81-b5d2-943f5215f071

And found even weirder mistakes when you just have two negative real
numbers (rather than one being complex).

Hope this is helpful to find possible bugs, or maybe it is on purpose?
(Though I don't think the behaviour with the real numbers can be on purpose)
