Hi,  My campus is considering moving to Canvas LMS from Blackboard and I am part of the team evaluating Canvas.  In the process of evaluating Canvas I tried to set up a NUMBAS test in Canvas as a SCORM package.  What I found was that I am not able to limit the number of attempts and to record the higher of the allowed attempts as the grade in Canvas for the NUMBAS test SCORM package.  I can do this in Blackboard.  When I contacted the Canvas tech support they said I have to set this in NUMBAS.  To my knowledge this is not an option given in NUMBAS, am I right?  Would you please clarify whether it is possible to limit the number of attempts in NUMBAS before downloading the SCORM package and to specify the highest grade to be recorded?  I think I know the answer, but I want to be 100% sure before letting my campus tech support know.

Thank you, Dileep

Hi Dileep,
It's definitely up to the LMS to manage number of attempts, and which grade to record. I don't have a Canvas course ready to test on at the moment, but the option will be in there somewhere.

Hi, thanks for the quick response.  We are working directly with Canvas technical support and their answers are evasive and that makes me think they do not have an option for setting number of attempts for SCORM package.  They have this option for Quiz created within Canvas, but, not for SCORM package, unfortunately.

Thanks again, and I appreciate it, Dileep

Hi, I need some more guidance .... Canvas tech support has confirmed there is no option for limiting number of attempts.  Therefore, the only option I am left with is to upload the exam on the web.  The help page says this option doesn’t track scores.  Then I don't know whether there is a way to get the scores of student attempts, and also to limit the number of attempts.

Thanks, Dileep

I'm sorry to hear that. Very odd for Canvas to be missing that feature - I can't imagine how they intend SCORM packages to be used.
If possible, you could set up an instance of the Numbas LTI tool provider, which would integrate with Canvas - see http://numbas-lti-provider.readthedocs.io/en/latest/getting-started.html.
Another option is to use the commercial SCORM cloud service - https://scorm.com/scorm-solved/scorm-cloud-features/.
