I 've been seeing in the Internet about Free GPRS tricks like TCP or UDP or Proxy tricks especially related to Airtel. I was wondering how those stuffs works. I don't think Airtel is so kind enough to give free internet for years. So if some one know anything about it can provide me with a good answer.

There were open proxy servers which is used by these service providers
for various web related content deliveries to mobile. I do not think
any of those are working now in Karnataka.

I have used the same few years back. But now not interested in
2G/GPRS. Even I have used 3G from docomo and Idea. When Idea started
3G services there were a mis configuration. if we recharge for 2G and
switch Ur usb modem in 3G mode we used to get 3G speed. This is still
existing in some circles. 2 days back my cousin brother was telling me
the same stuff where he recharged for 2G unlimited and when he
switched the band to 3G Only he got 3G speed. Still enjoying.

I think they left some proxy open by mistake and the same is
discovered by people later and start spreading it.

Some one done any R&D on this topic can share little more technical stuff.

Thanks.

We all know people are utilizing the mis-configuration done by the
service providers. There is no proper authentication before providing
access through some proxies. They are supposed to sent all user
requests through some authentication mechanism where they can check
which number is using the service and how much data in/out and bill
for it against their respective plans.
If some one working with any one of the telecom service providers and
handling this type of systems and servers can provide us more
technical information about this misconfiguration. They are supposed
to manage the content billing and 2G/3G data usage by each number. So
there is some mis-configuration and some people are able to use the
same. And many of the tricks wont work with all numbers. So detailed
structure of a telecom provider will help to understand this better
and take necessary configuration changes to deny this access or
redirect the user through proper billing system.

One of my friend provided the following URL to refer more about the
functionality
