Hi nulls,

We have been debating internally about this for a long time. The time has come now to make ourselves more structured and organized (more interesting is the fact that it is being announced today, coincidence or deliberate?).
Anyway, jokes apart, there will be several changes in the organization and we will be bringing in external management to streamline our process. There will be certain awesome and not-so-awesome-sounding changes, but the overall goal is to upgrade ourselves and provide better services to the community.

Please welcome the new null management team:
1. Aniket Padhya, CTO
Aniket brings in 2 decades of experience in managing security firms all around the globe. Prior to Joining null, he was the leading force behind Relaf security GmbH.

2. Sunil Wagador, CEO
Sunil has been working with the law enforcement agencies within the country and abroad for the past 10 years and has been instrumental in solving many cyber crimes including terrorism.

3. Akash Mahajan - Director-operations
Akash was instrumental in structuring the organization in the first place and has agreed to work full time for it. He will own all the community initiatives and operations.

4. Anant Shrivastava - Director-Training
Anant has extensive experience in Application pen testing and security training. He has agreed to work full time for null and will handle all learning related activities. He is currently serving his notice period and will join us from May 2014

With that said there will be some changes for the betterment of the organization and the community.

1. All null meets and other sessions will be organized on self-funded venues from June onwards. Yes, we are going to lease our own spaces in all cities.

2. All the sessions will be paid from May onwards. Yes, we know it sucks, but due to heavy financial burdens and loans taken to manage the community, we have decided to do the wrong thing and ask people to pay for learning if they are satisfied. Sorry!
      Meet registration                - INR 200
     4 hrs session registration     - INR 1000
     Full day session registration -

3. Our first international chapter in Bangkok (Yes, you heard it right) will be operational from next month. and will be managed by Murtuja Bharmal)

4. W3bd3vil has decided to step down from mailing list moderator role due to lack of time to manage the same and some legal threats for removing posts. This role will be managed by volunteers on a rotation basis. We thank you for volunteering for the same - Aseem Jakhar, Rahul Sasi, Vivek Ramachandran, Abhisek Datta and KK Mookhey.

5. We will also be starting official registration for members. The charges have been kept to a miminum.
     Yearly Membership     - INR 1000
Life time Membership - INR 7000

Benefits
     - Free Access to all null sessions
     - 30 % discounts in all partner Conferences
     - Full page on null website
     - Sharing your resume with all our partners

For folks who are interested in becoming members we request you to kindly fill the form - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1P9LYaSpyFlP7hBc-LlungezdtkBFRttnmMclVQm0bo0/viewform

With this we hope to become a leading name in the security Industry. Your support and good wishes will definitely play an important role in our success

Best Regards,
null Team

We have been doing this for almost 60 months non-stop. Almost all the chapters are struggling with community participation. A lot of folks attend, corporates come to attend and hire but overall support remains abysmally low.

Very disappointing indeed. This will only lead security professionals away from null. Not to mention that we will see a drastic drop in new members. The idea of having a monthly meet is only to share knowledge and inspire people to take up info sec as a profession.

So will the volunteering speakers get a share of the money collected for the meets?

Prashanth,

The volunteer part hasn't worked for us at all. The amount of effort that has been put in by all the chapter leaders, founders to create a community is back breaking to be frank. After all that we have seen that folks treat null like a free training resource and hardly ever give back.

It is so surprising that even to share on Facebook folks are stingy while enjoying some really good quality training for free.

Volunteer speakers turn up on time but attendees don't. Every person who is experienced in running communities told us that this is because you offer it for free.

So I don't think that volunteer part works in India.

Training is booming with stupid companies charging crazy money for
courses and after offering great training and all the code for free,
nothing new has come out of the people attending. most of the folks
just attend and leave no one wants to share knowledge be a speaker or
wants to be a champion.

So help us try it the other way round where we are charging very
nominal cost (which if you compared with others is not even peanuts)
primarily used to cover our organizational expenses. and yes there
would be incentives for champions taking workshops and more incentives
could be thought on as we proceed with it.

Null crew and Garage4Hackers have been discussing on this for the past 2 months and we had to finally make this call. I personally agree with Nulls decision on this.  But few members from Garage community was totally against this move. And as a reason we are having some internal conflicts in Garage . The point is this was a tough decision but in the end you have to do what is better for the organization.

Lets hope the new policies is beneficial.

And as there will be less ppl attending meets, there will be less ppl at Satya's :( caz most ppl came to meets to get drunk at Satya's (like me)

I think I'll start "Bar Meets" now .... and it will be FREE.

I like being Director of Operations. I would like to continue using this as my designation. No more Community Manager.

I am sure in all companies a Direcotor trumps Manager every time!

Well the prank has ended. But I do hope that all those folks who expressed disappointment are going to take a bigger role and responsibilties in the functioning of null.

New and Exciting things coming soon
1. Website being upgraded to be mobile friendly, responsive and easier to read.
2. Automtion backend for easier management of events, workshops
3. Better organised recognition for volunteers, speakers, champions
4. Moving away from Google Analytics, completely over SSL etc.

On my 2nd day as Director of Operations all of this for free for the community for free :D

Hmmm ... so it came to an end. I'm sure this will be affect the attendance at meets.

And as there will be less ppl attending meets, there will be less ppl at Satya's :( caz most ppl came to meets to get drunk at Satya's (like me)

I think I'll start "Bar Meets" now .... and it will be FREE.
Let me know who all are interested.
