Hi All,
PS: I could not find any topic relevant to this, hence starting a new post.

I have been working in the field of information security at Network / System level and Web apps for a couple of Years now. I feel having a certification is worth now with some real world know hows.

It has been a very confusing decision to make and wanted to ask seniors who might have run down this path earlier.

Which certification is worth it:
Options that I am aware of (but need not be limited to are):
  1. CEH
  2. CISSP
  3. OSCP
  4. OSWE
Please help do a Pro / con analysis of the same

Regards
Narsi

OSCP is expensive..but it is good . CEH is cheaper and full of basics... Given a chance i would prefer OSCP and CISSP

My personal thoughts for certifications.

1) they are ways to prove that you have specific skillset.
2) Point 1 is required mostly in case of non professionally experianced candidate. (if you are 2-4+ yrs experiance you don't actually need certiifcations to make a point)
3) As you seems to be an experianced person. your experiance should talk about it.

BTW as far as the 4 certs you mentioned.

CEH : good for begineers and to clear the HR screening (nothing more nothing less)
CISSP : give you an overall picture of the infosec domain, good for management kind of positions where you are not digging too deep but need to cover broader spectrum.
OSCP : good / excelent if you do it fully on your own efforts without taking help from others. but focused a lot of offensive attacks specifically network level attacks. If this is where you see yourself growing this cert makes sense.
OSWE : is wireless specific certification, until and unless you are doing a lot of training  / projects on wireless this simply doesn't makes sense.

Personally I recommend experianced people to take certifications only if the company is sponsoring them or if they are not getting type of job they want and need to strengthen there resume with relevent certifications.

As for people posting this better then that, i see all 4 or N certificates to have one or the other place in the world for it. So without knowing where you are planing yourself there is no point giving our opinions that this is better then that.

Hope this mail helps.

Hello All!!

Thanks for the response and Details.

@Manjunath
some how OSCP felt cheaper, I may be wrong though

@Anant:
OSWE :is OS Web Expert, Wireless is OSWP.

Overall : If I can make a proper case, I would get fully or partially sponsored for any of those

CISSP - (ISC) costs about USD 2.7k and afaik, OSCP costs upwards lf USD1k, for training

I attended a CEH training and felt that it is too rudimentary to get stamped on would be Kind of my last option

Hope this helps in giving more of my context and advise.

Oh the newly launched one. no idea about OSWE then.

As i already said look at the end goal what these certifications want to achieve and target the one which will be in line with what you want to do.

Don't just do certificate coz its cheaper or its costlier.

From the looks of it, you've already made up your mind.

If you more interested in web, take OSWE or go for OSCP.

Well you can't compare an apple with an Orange.
so CISSP can't be compared with OSCP.
Both have their own advantages and disadvantages, as well as both are geared towards a completely different audience. You may end up doing both.

Thanks
